Treyarch reveals CoD: Black Ops 4 multiplayer and battle royale beta details

This year's Call of Duty is a bit special, with Activision announcing earlier this year that Black Ops 4 will arrive without a single-player campaign, and will instead include a battle royale mode named Blackout. Today, the developer Treyarch revealed when can players try out its new title before it releases, with beta periods planned for the next couple of months.

Getting into the multiplayer beta on consoles require pre-ordering the shooter, and those on the PlayStation 4 get to jump in before everyone else. Meanwhile, PC players who pre-order will get a one day head start on the open beta.

Here are the beta dates and times for all platforms:

  • PlayStation 4 - Starts: August 3 at 10am/PT – Ends: August 6 at 10am/PT
  • PlayStation 4 and Xbox One - Starts: August 10 at 10am/PT – Ends: August 13 at 10am/PT
  • PC Beta Early Access - Starts: August 10 at 10am/PT *PC exclusively on Battle.Net
  • PC Open Beta - Starts: August 11 at 10am/PT – Ends: August 13 at 10am/PT

The multiplayer beta will include six maps and five modes, and everyone who participates will get a calling card to show off when the game releases. Anyone dedicated enough to hit max rank during the beta will get a Permanent Unlock Token "to apply to any piece of Create-a-Class content" in the full game.

Beyond that, the studio also revealed that the Blackout battle royale mode will get its own closed beta later in September, but once again, PlayStation 4 players will get to have a crack at it first.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is slated to launch on October 12 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, as well as PC, which arrives exclusively via Blizzard's Battle.net.
