Twitter is currently working on several features and enhancements, some of which have started to roll out and others which are still in testing phase. These include support for viewing tall images, a potential "undo" feature that is still in testing, and authentication of accounts via security keys. The company has recently rolled out a new capability that allows you to tip a select number of people, for now.
Dubbed "Tip Jar", the feature allows you to financially support people on Twitter beyond the usual like, follow, and retweet mechanisms. Twitter says that it has noted that people who go viral on the platform typically link to their PayPal or Venmo accounts so that others can donate to them. Some also include this information on their profile. Tip Jar is designed to offer users who engage in this practice a more streamlined approach to giving and receiving tips.
The Tip Jar functionality can be enabled from the profile editing menu, and will be available as a button next to the Follow button. Whichever payment methods you add will be available as a dropdown on the Tip Jar. Twitter currently supports Bandcamp, Cash App, Patreon, PayPal and Venmo as payment methods but has noted that availability may be dependent on region. Android users can also tip via Twitter Spaces. The company has highlighted that it takes absolutely no cut from any tip.
As of now, anyone who uses Twitter in English on Android or iOS can tip select accounts. These accounts are currently limited to some creators, journalists, experts, and nonprofits only. Twitter says that it plans to expand availability soon and will also add support for more languages.
