Unboxing and setup of Acer's Windows Mixed Reality Headset Developer Edition

Back in October, Microsoft announced that its partners would be releasing a range of virtual reality headsets for the masses, that don't have the high prices or system requirements of their competitors, like the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive. Pre-orders for Developer Edition devices from Acer and HP began at Build, and started shipping at the beginning of the month.

Naturally, I bought one to try out. Of course, I've tried a couple of these head-mounted displays (HMDs) before, including the Acer (as you can see above). These were demos though, that were done in controlled environments using the apps that I was told to use.

Inside of the box is just the HMD and some instructions for setting it up. Connected to the headset is a cable that splits into USB 3.0 and HDMI, and that's how you plug it into your PC. Once you do plug it in, the Mixed Reality Portal app opens, and you'll be guided through the setup experience.
