Unboxing the Dell XPS 15 with a Core i9-8950HK, 4K HDR screen, 32GB RAM, and GTX 1050Ti

Dell's new XPS 15 laptop is a beast, being one of the only non-gaming and non-workstation PCs that offers a 45W Intel H-series processor, let alone a Core i9-8950HK. The K suffix on the end means that it's unlocked, so if the beastly six cores/12 threads of power isn't enough for you, you can overclock the CPU.

I've always said that the XPS 15 lineup is close to the perfect combination of power and portability. In fact, while this was announced in April, Dell announced the XPS 15 2-in-1 at CES in January. That had a Kaby Lake G processor, which was like a seventh-generation H-series processor with an AMD Radeon GPU on the die. This allowed for a slimmer form factor. It has its drawbacks though. It's not quite as powerful as the full hexa-core H-series processor that's in the clamshell, and it also had a really shallow keyboard. The XPS 15 feels like typing on a proper laptop.

Both devices have their pros and cons, and I'm already comfortable recommending either one depending on what you plan to use it for. Rather than the 4GB AMD Radeon that's on the Intel Kaby Lake G chip, the XPS 15 comes with Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti graphics with 4GB memory. On top of that, it has a 15.6-inch 4K HDR InfinityEdge display, 32GB RAM, and 1TB SSD.
