VIA announces K8N800A chipset for Turion64 notebooks

VIA Technologies, a developer of silicon-chip technologies and PC platform solutions, today announced the VIA K8N800A, a low-power core-logic chipset with an integrated graphics processor (IGP) incorporated with the northbridge. The chipset is optimized for AMD's upcoming Turion 64 mobile technology, as well as the complete range of Mobile AMD Athlon 64 and Mobile AMD Sempron processors.

The VIA K8N800A chipset features the S3 Graphics UniChrome Pro Integrated Graphics Processor (IGP), providing dual-pipeline graphics performance through a 128-bit 2D/3D engine and shared DDR memory support for 3D gaming and applications, while the Chromotion CE Video Display Engine blends hardware-based MPEG-2 decoding acceleration for digital video playback with advanced display technologies for enhanced video rendering and a rich visual experience. Support for an external AGP8x port allows optional graphics processor upgrades on supporting notebooks.
