WhatsApp gets the ability to mute chats forever, here's how to use it

WhatsApp has released a new update today that lets users mute chats forever. The company earlier allowed users to mute chats up to a year, post which they were unmuted automatically.

However, starting today, WhatsApp users will be able to mute chats forever as the company replaced the 'one year' option with an 'Always' option. The Always mute feature was added to WhatsApp Beta for Android and iOS earlier this month and is now available for everyone. If you want to mute chats forever then you can follow the steps below to do it:

  • Open WhatsApp and long-press on a chat that you want to mute
  • Now select the 'mute icon' from the top
  • In the mute settings, select 'Always' to mute a chat forever

This method works for both individual chats as well as for group chats. WhatsApp is rolling out the feature to Android and iOS users. The company has also added it to WhatsApp Web and you can access the feature by right-clicking on an individual/group chat and selecting the 'Mute notifications' option. WhatsApp Android and iOS users will need to download the latest update from Google Play Store and App Store respectively to get the Always mute feature.
