Windows 10 Mobile Creators Update rolling out to a broader range of devices

The Windows 10 Mobile Creators Update has been a bumpy ride so far. At the end of March, Microsoft said it was coming on April 25; later, we would learn that only 13 devices will receive the update.

To make matters worse, there was little communication on launch day. The firm released the update to the Release Preview ring for Insiders, right at the time that everyone was expecting it to hit Production.

The rest of the afternoon was a mess of miscommunication and misdirection from Microsoft, until late that night, Dona Sarkar said that the Creators Update was finally rolling out "in waves across regions". Since then, there have been only a few scattered reports of users that have received the update, which is build 15063.251.

Today though, it seems that the Windows 10 Mobile Creators Update is finally hitting the majority of unlocked devices. We got it on an HP Elite x3, Lumia 550, and Lumia 950 XL. Unfortunately, none of our carrier-locked phones are seeing the update, which means that if you've got a Windows phone from AT&T or T-Mobile, you'll probably have to wait another week or so.

The Creators Update does contain a few new features, such as the ability to purchase ebooks from the Windows Store and read them in the Edge browser. It doesn't include some of the expected features though, such as Night Light and the Continuum improvements that were promised at Ignite.

If your device hasn't received the Creators Update yet, or if it recently lost support, you can always grab it through the Release Preview ring.
