Just after Microsoft launched the Windows 8 Release Preview on May 31, NVIDIA bragged that it had received the Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) stamp of approval from Microsoft for its GeForce drivers to run on Windows 8. NVIDIA promised to release those drivers in the next week. However, the company later admitted that the drivers were not yet ready for prime time.
After releasing beta versions of the Windows 8 Release Preview drivers in mid-June, NVIDIA has finally released the promised WHQL-certified GeForce 302.82 desktop drivers for the Release Preview build of the OS. You can download the 32-bit and 64-bit versions at NVIDIA's website.
Keep in mind that this driver release is just for the Windows 8 Release Preview and should not be installed on a PC if you still have Windows 7, Vista or XP installed. Also, these drivers are just for desktop graphics chips from NVIDIA. If you have a notebook with NVIDIA graphics and want to run Windows 8, you will have to stick with the beta GeForce 302.80 drivers (32-bit and 64-bit). There's no word when or even if the notebook drivers will come out of beta for Windows 8.
