Windows Phone 8 devices being tested in Australia?

According to a recent report, multiple Windows Phone manufacturers are testing Windows Phone 8 devices in Australia.

WPDownUnder is reporting that multiple sources have told it that at least three manufacturers are testing the new Windows Phone 8 devices in the country. The site indicates that Nokia is testing a device that looks "almost identical" to the current Lumia 900; the site speculates that the device will have a front-facing camera, although it doesn't provide any information to corroborate this theory. Additionally, the site's sources stated that HTC and Samsung are also testing preview devices in the country. WPDownUnder hasn't heard whether or not any additional manufacturers are testing devices in the country.

The news comes shortly after a Nokia fan site revealed pictures showing names for potential Windows Phone 8 Nokia devices. No new information about the devices was revealed in the pictures beyond the fact the devices are running the next version of the Windows Phone operating system, according to information in WP Bench, a benchmarking utility for Windows Phone devices.

Windows Phone 8 will be officially revealed next month at Microsoft's Developer Summit event. Little is known about the new operating system beyond its codename, Apollo, although a wireless company executive recently commented the operating system looks "pretty impressive." The new mobile operating system is expected to launch alongside handsets from Nokia later this year.
