The rumors are heating up slowly, with Microsoft soon to announce a Mango beta for developers, and this week we're hearing two new ones. First off, Mango is rumored to not require hardware buttons, and second, we've heard that the next update in line after Mango is to be entitled "Tango."
WMPoweruser reports that a "Russian sage" by the name of Murtazin, a famous (and reputable) blogger tweeted,
The rumor has some ground. We saw a photo of a device circulate the web last week, with alleged on-screen buttons. The device was the Nokia "Sea Ray" that was shown off by CEO Stephen Elop last week, which is missing the hardware buttons required by Microsoft, but apparently this device does not need them. We'll see how this develops in the coming months.
Secondly, Digitimes reports that it appears that Compal, a newly announced Windows Phone 7 partner, dropped the ball slightly today when sources close to the company announced that "Compal has signed with Microsoft for licensed use of the Mango platform and Tango, a platform to succeed Mango."
Until now, we've heard nothing about an update called "Tango," and had only heard that the next Windows Phone update was allegedly "WP8" and codenamed Apollo. Naturally, Microsoft won't comment on the matter, but this is another thing we'll find out over the coming months.
Mango is expected to be released in September this year, and brings 500 new features to the Windows Phone 7 platform, including Multitasking, IE9, OS-wide IM integration, deeper social networking and more.
