Xbox 360 320 GB hard drive announced with free game

Gamers who own Microsoft's Xbox 360 Silm console will soon be able to increase their hard drive capacity. Major Nelson reports that later this month Microsoft will offer a 320 GB hard drive that will be compatible with the 2010 redesign of the console. Previously the upper limit of the console's hard drive was 250 GB. Microsoft's price point for the 320 GB drive will be $129.99.

People who purchase the hard drive will also get a bonus. It will include a game code that can be used to download a free copy of Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars via Xbox Live. The retail version of the game, which was first released back in March 2011, is currently on sale for $19.99. Microsoft had plans to include a 320 GB hard drive in a special version of its Xbox 360 console that was made to look a little like R2-D2 earlier this year. However that special version was delayed to 2012 due to the decision to push back the release of Kinect Star Wars out of its planned fall 2011 time frame.

While there's no word if Microsoft will sell a regular version of its Xbox 360 console with the 320 GB hard drive installed, it has already announced plans to include a 320 GB drive inside the special Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 edition of the console. That version will be priced at $399 and will include repainted versions of the console, two Xbox 360 controllers and a copy of the upcoming first person shooter. It will be released on November 8.
