Xiaomi introduces the Redmi 9 series, starting at €99

Xiaomi held a launch event for an array of new products, with the company expanding its ecosystem of products in addition to introducing new entry-level smartphones. These are the Redmi 9 series, and it includes three phones - the Redmi 9, Redmi 9C, and Redmi 9A.

The Redmi 9 is the more expensive of the bunch, with a 6.53-inch Full HD+ display, and a quad-camera setup with a 13MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, a 5MP macro, and a 2MP depth sensor. The fingerprint sensor is under the camera setup, and it almost looks like it's a camera itself until you look closely. It also has an 8MP selfie camera.

In terms of performance, it's powered by a MediaTek Helio G80 chipset, and there's two configurations - one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, and another with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The battery is 5,020mAh.

The Redmi 9 will be available in Carbon Grey, Ocean Green, and Sunset Purple, and it costs €149 for the 3GB+32GB variant, while the 4GB+64GB model costs €169.

The Redmi 9C is a step down, with a MediaTek Helio G35 powering the device and either 2GB of RAM paired with 32GB of storage or 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The battery is 5,000 mAh.

There's a triple-camera setup on the back of the phone, with a 13MP camera leading the pack, with the other two being a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. The selfie camera is 5MP and it sits inside a notch on the 6.53-inch HD+ display, so there's a clear number of downgrades. There's also no fingerprint sensor here.

With those sacrifices, it costs €119 for the 2GB+32GB model and €139 for the 3GB+64GB variant. It comes in Midnight Gray, Sunrise Orange, and Twilight Blue colors.

Finally, the Redmi 9A is the cheapest of the bunch, with a further downgrade to a MediaTek Helio G25, paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The battery is the same size, and the display is also the same size and resolution as the Redmi 9C. The camera setup is downgraded, with only a 13MP main camera and a 5MP selfie camera.

The Redmi 9A costs just €99, and it comes in Granite Gray, Peacock Green, and Sky Blue.
