Xiaomi Mi 5 successor could arrive by the second half of the year

The Chinese smartphone maker only released its flagship Mi 5 in March this year but a new rumour has it that Xiaomi is already working on a successor, the Mi 5s. The device which is said to be launching in the second half of the year will feature a pressure-sensitive display offering functionality like that of Apple's 3D Touch.

The scarcely reported specifications of the device include:

  • 5.15-inch 1080p display
  • 6GB RAM
  • Rear dual camera
  • A top of the range SoC

Aside from the touch sensitive display, the device is also said to be coming with a Qualcomm ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. Qualcomm's fingerprint scanner was first announced at Mobile World Congress 2015. It uses sound to capture your fingerprint; this method is more accurate than traditional fingerprint scanners.

According to The Korea Herald, Samsung will be supplying dual camera modules to a variety of Chinese smartphone manufacturers for the first time. An anonymous source is cited as saying, “The South Korean firm will begin supplying the modules to Xiaomi and LeECO beginning in July.” The Samsung-supplied dual camera modules are likely to arrive in the upcoming Mi 5s.

It should be restated that the information on the Mi 5s is based on early rumours; therefore, details about device specifications, or even its existence, could change. If Xiaomi is working on the Mi 5s, there will likely be more leaks before it is announced.
