At Mobile World Congress 2017 in February, Sony unveiled the Xperia Touch, an Android 7.0 Nougat device that projects its interface onto any flat surface, creating a 23-inch, touch-sensitive, high-definition display. The Xperia Touch can also project onto walls at sizes up to 80 inches, with gesture support to help users interact with the device at that scale.
Sony said at the time that the device would be priced at €1,499 in Europe, but it stopped short of announcing pricing in other parts of the world. Now, the company has revealed that the Xperia Touch is coming to the United States this month, where it will cost $1,700.
That's quite a price tag for a device that, according to Sony, only offers one (yes, one!) hour of battery life. Sony told me in February that it was working to increase that to four hours, but it's not yet clear if those battery life enhancements will be ready in time for the device's launch. It can be used while plugged in, of course, but a big part of the device's appeal is its portability.
As Engadget reports, Sony will open US pre-orders for the Xperia Touch on June 16; however, it will be exclusively sold at the Sony Square display room at 25 Madison Avenue in New York City.
