You can now get Microsoft's Lumia 950 XL for £329.99 in the UK

Last month, Microsoft cut the price of the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL in the UK for the third time this year, reducing them to £249 and £339, respectively. A few days later, it added to that by also throwing in a free Display Dock worth £79.99 with each handset.

The cost of the two Windows 10 Mobile flagships has been falling in the UK since before they even went on sale. The Lumia 950 XL was originally listed at £549 last October, but its price was trimmed to £529 before pre-orders opened.

And even after Microsoft's latest official price cut, the cost of the Lumia 950 XL has fallen further elsewhere. Mobile Phones Direct is now offering the supersized flagship in black for £329.99 - that's £219 (40%) below its original list price, at £199 (37%) below the price at which it first went on sale less than a year ago.

However, it's worth noting that the Mobile Phones Direct price doesn't include the free Display Dock that's being offered at the Microsoft Store. The Dock allows owners to use a mouse and keyboard with the phone when it's connected to a larger display - one of the key selling points of the high-end handset.

The Lumia 950 XL's key specs include:

  • 5.7-inch AMOLED with Quad HD (2560x1440px) resolution
  • Octa-core 2.0GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor
  • 3GB RAM
  • 32GB onboard storage (plus microSD card slot)
  • 20MP PureView rear camera with auto focus, 6-lens optics, triple-LED flash, optical image stabilization and 4K video recording at 30fps
  • 5MP front-facing camera with wide-angle lens and 1080p video recording
  • Bluetooth 4.1
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with Wi-Fi Direct support
  • Qi wireless charging
  • 3340mAh battery
  • USB 3.1 port with Type-C connector
  • 151.9 x 78.4 x 8.3mm; 165g

If you're keen to take advantage of the Continuum feature on the Lumia 950 XL, you're better off buying it from the Microsoft Store with the free Dock. If you're not bothered about that functionality, and you're happy to get it in black (the white model costs £30 more), you can save £10 on the device from Mobile Phones Direct - and if you shop around, you may be able to find it available for even less from other retailers.
