You'll soon be able to unlock any Windows 10 PC with a Samsung Galaxy fingerprint scanner

Last year, Samsung launched the Galaxy TabPro S, a sleek and stylish Windows 10 tablet. One of its features - which the company describes as "a neat trick" - is the ability to unlock the device using the fingerprint sensor on supported Galaxy smartphones, using the Samsung Flow app.

The Galaxy TabPro S is the only Windows device to be supported by that feature - but Samsung is now preparing to expand that support to all Windows 10 PCs.

In response to an enquiry on the Google Play Store app listing for Samsung Flow, the company said:

Samsung Flow is compatible with TapPro S [sic] now . But it will support all Windows PCs from Windows 10 next major update (estimated early April). Thank you.

The update to which Samsung referred there is the Windows 10 Creators Update, which is now in the latter stages of pre-rollout testing through the Windows Insider community. Microsoft hasn't yet announced a firm date for its release, but Samsung's 'estimate' lines up with an announcement by Dell last month, during which it too said that the Creators Update will arrive in April.

Given the popularity of Samsung's Galaxy handsets - many of which have fingerprint scanners - the ability to biometrically unlock Windows 10 PCs without having to buy extra equipment may well prove to be a handy (ha!) addition for owners of those devices.

In addition to the unlock function, the Samsung Flow app also lets users transfer content between their devices, as well as allowing them to monitor and reply to smartphone notifications on their PCs.
