As has almost become an annual tradition now, YouTube Rewind has returned to rewind through the most popular of pop and internet culture trends from 2017.
The year has given us a fair share of turmoil and tranquility, and the YouTube mash-up tries its best to reflect that; featuring quite a few YouTube celebrities, a few buckets of paint, slime, a triangle sun (with a complimentary similar-shaped moon), fidget spinners, and a cameo from Stephen Colbert to top it all off.
Along with the YouTube Rewind feature, the YouTube Spotlight channel has also compiled several playlists for the year, featuring the top trending music videos, gaming videos, movie trailers, and even advertisements. If one craves more, there’s even a trivia game capable of judging your knowledge of the biggest pop and internet trends from the year. There's also a relatively short behind-the-scenes video, for the curious.
YouTube is going through plenty of algorithm-induced troubles, but a light-hearted mash-up such as this, featuring many of its most prominent celebrities who have also been vocal against its recent practices, does bring some sense of normality in an otherwise chaotic time.
