Zombie-themed State of Decay announced

Zombies continue to be a popular theme for games. Today, a team that has been quietly working on their own take on the genre for about three years finally released the first details about the game called State of Decay.

Developer Undead Labs released the first trailer for the game today, along with a website with more information about State of Decay, which will be released for the PC and Xbox 360 (Microsoft will publish the game for its Xbox 360 incarnation). It's being designed as an open world sandbox title; think Grand Theft Auto but with lots of zombies running around instead of gangsters and police.

The development team says that State of Decay's gameplay will evolve depending on the choices and actions of the player. It states:

Decide where you’d like to set up a fortified safe haven for you and other survivors you’ve rescued, then form raiding parties to gather resources and create supply chains. Use the materials you’ve gathered to develop your community as you see fit, but be careful — resources will deplete as you pillage areas, and zombies are attracted to noise and activity. Take up the offensive by assaulting hordes before they reach your settlement, or focus on improving your defenses against the massed zombie attacks.

There's no word yet on when State of Decay will be released. Undead Labs is also reportedly working on a zombie-themed MMO title as well.
