Xbox One backward compatibility for Xbox 360 games launches in November with 100 titles

Back at the E3 gaming expo in June, Microsoft announced the launch of backward compatibility on the Xbox One, allowing users to play games on the new console that were originally created for the older Xbox 360. The feature rolled out for those on the Xbox Preview program with a handful of titles, but owners were invited to vote for the next games to be supported.

At this week's Gamescom expo in Germany, Microsoft today said that over three million votes have been cast so far - and it also revealed when the new feature will become more widely available.

Microsoft's Mike Ybarra said that over 83 years' worth of Xbox 360 games have been played on the Xbox One so far - and there will soon be plenty more titles to look forward to. He announced that all future Xbox 360 Games with Gold titles will have backward compatibility support on the newer console.

He added that Microsoft Studios' - the company's first-party development house - is fully committed to backward compatibility, as are many leading third-party partners, including EA, Bethesda, Disney, Square Enix, Capcom, Codemasters, Ubisoft, and more.

Most importantly of all, he announced that Microsoft will make Xbox 360 backward compatibility available on the Xbox One this November for everyone - not just those on the preview program - with over 100 titles at launch.

Ybarra revealed that November will also mark the launch of the new Xbox One user experience, "powered by Windows 10". Microsoft is also adding DVR functionality to the Xbox One, he said, allowing users to record live TV on the console, and even stream and download recordings to Windows 10 devices.
