10 million Diablo III copies sold; expansion coming

There's still a lot of people who want to kill and gather loot out there. Just ask the folks at Blizzard Entertainment, who announced today that their fantasy action-RPG sequel Diablo III has sold a whopping 10 million copies since it was launched in May.

Joystiq reports that the sales numbers were revealed by Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick, as part of the company's quarterly financial results. He added, "Year-to-date, Diablo III is the top-selling game overall based on enough meta, digital and retail sales in North America and Europe."

So it's not a shock to learn that after all of those unit sales, Blizzard is working on a commercial expansion pack for the game. Blizzard Entertainment president Mike Morhaime would not give any details, nor a final release date, but did say, "I think the most important thing for us always comes down to the quality of the expansion and the gameplay, so that will be a big factor in terms of driving our schedule."

In related news, Morhaime also said Blizzard will be aiming to release StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, the first expansion to their hit RTS game, sometime in the first half of 2013.

Have they added PvP yet?
I own the game but can't be arsed to play it, I wanted it for the PvP they said it'd have and never did, maybe the expansion will bring that feature. I should have tried to get my money back on this. It was $80 in Australia and I played it for about 10 hours before I just stopped caring.

I've put over 100 hours into TL2 and it cost 1/4th of Diablo 3. Just a tidbit for anyone maybe interested in TL2. Note: Your experience may vary.

i wonder if they count the free copies from the WoW signup for a year thing... that's how i got my copy, and i'm glad i didn't buy it

How many of those still play though? I was lucky enough to get a refund on mine. This game sucks.

D3 still feels like a beta..they added nothing new...so i had a feeling of 'been there done that'

I still don't know whether to buy it or not. Might get T2 instead (not sure for this one as well).

Don't. TL2 is better, simply for the price and content you get. Save yourself!
