Angry Birds to take flight on Windows Phone 7 and in 3D

It looks like Rovio’s Angry Birds series of games is finally going to take flight on Windows Phone 7 handsets, along with a special 3D version of the game designed especially for the Nintendo 3DS and LG Optimus 3D devices.

During an interview on Pocket-Lint, Rovio confirmed its plans to bring Angry Birds to Windows Phone 7 devices and for a new 3D version of the game coming to the Nintendo 3DS handheld and possibly the LG Optimus 3D mobile phone in the coming months.

Many Windows Phone 7 fans have been wondering why the game has been taking so long to arrive on their hardware, well it seems that Microsoft’s lawyers may be to blame, with Rovio’s Peter Vesterbacka stating that “Let’s just say, Microsoft has a lot of lawyers,”

There is no news yet as to whether the game will also become an “Xbox LIVE” title on the handsets, which would allow gamers access to achievements and leaderboards, or if the game will just become an indie based title.

Just before Windows Phone 7 launched in October 2010, Rovio and Microsoft had a small spat when the Seattle company took it upon themselves to use an Angry Birds icon to their gaming and apps advertising. Rovio were upset because Microsoft used it without the company’s permission.

Most people with phones don't play for oodles of time, a pick up and play title like Angry Birds is perfect, most of my family love it even if it doesn't appeal to me as much.

For the record I wasn't trying to belittle it. I am sure it funs for a lot of people. Just boring once you experience everything PC / (heck even consoles) have to offer.

I did like the Unreal Citadel Demo, and the RAGE Tech Demo Video. Thats what get me excited about mobile game.

Yep I think that's it. While there are some awesome RPGs on mobiles the ability to play for a couple of minutes then go on your way is one reason why it may be popular.

It was retarded the first time I saw it. Now it's in 3D?!

"To each their own" I guess.

hey, retarted is what sells, look at hollywood lately

I agree, I have an unlimited ticket and it's been months since a decent scary movie came out, at least scream is coming out and when I mean scary movie hollywood I don;t mean films like Freddy vs Jason which are stupid and aren't scary.

marketing is what sells, retarded is who follow it.

Great game, but as with most casual games after 5 min they get boring.
Still they are great for commuting to and from work.

PC games and Super Street Fighter 4 on 360 is where it's at.

Umm I highly doubt that they are making the game 3D as in 3D display compatible... They mean 3D as in a 3D game vs 2D (think 3D Tic-Tac-Toe vs normal Tic-Tac-Toe).

Pixelgene is a 3D gaming company, but NOT a 3D display gaming company. Your speculation is highly unsupported, and you stated it as fact.

"Rovio confirmed its plans... for a new 3D version of the game coming to the Nintendo 3DS..."

Completely false. They never confirmed that.

They announced a 3DS version earlier this month

This guy has come off as snarkily anti-MS from the start. I suspected straight off that his outrage over Microsoft using an Angry Birds icon in a WP7 ad was faked (he practically had the vapors~), and the delay in coding a simple game for what's hailed as one of the best platforms for developer tools is comical.

Not like I care. I enjoyed Angry Birds for a few minutes, but it's not that great. You want a game that'll suck years off your life? Try Game Dev Story. Don't forget to take bathroom breaks; I'll see you in a week.

Well they had no problem coding it for every other platform so something held it up - likely Xbox LIVE support

Have to admit I love this game still - and I've finished it twice (and I''m playing it again!). Every smartphone in the world should have it installed, would love to have it on a touchscreen monitor to play too, I have to say I was envious when my friends who have Macs had it in their app store and were playing it on a desktop - hopefully it will come onto Xbox marketplace soon and MS will start supporting touchscreen monitors and Xboxes - I wouldn't want to play it with a controller though!

What a stuping thing to say about MS having lawyers, far too many games quickly making it into the WP7 marketplace for this statement to be taken seriously.

Angry Bird is the new Blair Witch.. an average-to-mediocre product but overhyped by the blogsphere.

And the guilty are the bloggers that, or they are too corrupt to be easily bribed for talk about it, or they are too lamb and simply c&p from another site.
