Anonymous declares war on NYSE, plans to erase it from the internet

Today, Anonymous appears to have threatened to remove the New York Stock Exchange from the internet on October 10.

A video posted to YouTube with the familiar computer-generated voice that Anonymous is known to use stated that "On Oct. 10, NYSE shall be erased from the Internet. On Oct. 10, expect a day that will never, ever be forgotten." The threat looks to be in response to the Occupy Wall Street protest, in which hundreds have been arrested, according to PCMag.

The video goes on to say that "it seems that the government and federal agencies enjoy enforcing the law a little bit too much" and that the group "will not stand by and watch the system take over our way of life." The video instructs users to download the LOIC (Low Orbit Ion Canon DDoS tool) and target www.nyse.com on October 10.

The group didn't outline how they plan to "erase" the NYSE from the internet, but it's likely they mean a co-ordinated take down of their website and any additional endpoints that can be found. PCMag points out that some believe that taking down the NYSE website would only be a minor inconvienience, and that the group may attempt to stop the NYSE trading on the exchange.

Such a move could be devastating to world markets, and it's hard to predict what would actually happen if the group managed to stop trading. The transcript of the video reads;

Greetings, institutions of the media.

We are Anonymous.

The events transpiring within Wall Street have caught our eye.

It seems that the government and federal agencies enjoy enforcing the law a little bit too much. They instate unjust laws as mindless automatons, blindly following orders with soulless precision.

We witness the government enforcing the laws that punish the 99 percent while allowing the 1 percent to escape justice, unharmed, for their crimes against the people.

We have observed this same government failing to enforce even the minimal legal restraints of Wall Street's abuses. This government who has willingly ignored the greed at Wall Street has even bailed out the perpetrators that have caused our crisis.

We will not stand by and watch the system take over our way of life.

We the people shall stand against the government's inaction.

We the people will not be witnesses to your corruption and ill-gotten profits.

We will not labor for your leisure.

We will not assist you in any way.

This is why we choose to declare our war against the New York Stock Exchange. We can no longer stay silent as the population is being exploited and forced to make sacrifices in the name of profit.

We will show the world that we are true to our word. On Oct. 10, NYSE shall be erased from the Internet. On Oct. 10, expect a day that will never, ever be forgotten.

Vox Populi, Vox Anon.

The Voice of The People is The Voice of Anonymous.

We are Legion. We are the 99 percent.

We do not forgive. We do not forget.

Wall Street: Expect us.

They should just broadcast one of Obama's speeches. That seems to take down the DOW better than any hacker attack ever could.

How long have you been in your own basement? Obviously you haven't been paying attention to the economy of the United States. Anonymous is trying to resolve issues with the state of our economy by starting to awaken people to what is truly going on behind the veil. Anonymous organized OccupyWallStreet, so how can you all say that Anonymous are cowards for hiding? Anonymous is amongst you everyday, you walk by Anon, interact with Anon, eat with Anon, breathe the same airas Anon. But yet you fail to realize this. Anonymous in a way, is like the CIA or an Undecover unit of a police force. They do their job by not letting you know they are doing it. By observing by interaction, and then acting upon what they observe, in the most logical sense they see fit. Anonymous do what they feel is right. To you it may not seem right. But to Anonymous, it is. Call Anonymous "Skript Kiddies" or "Morons" or "F**kers". Anonymous doesn't care. But Anon doesn't forgive and doesn't forget. But Anonymous will protect your sorry, blind, ignorant behinds.

Right, now do some math, this causes a 30% drop in the value of the dollar.
The average American's retirement takes it square in the arse.
The rich investor takes a loss, but has plenty of shares to cover the loss and survive.
The econony returns, the rich make **** tonnes of cash, the middle class have lost everything.

So Anon's plan

1.) disrupt NYSE
2.) corps. divest **** ant normals with minimal investments
3.) corps. take more power
4.) rich become richer
5.) corps. profit
6.) middle class no longer exists

Shouldn't it be the 5th of November as per V for Vendetta, a movie popularizing their namesake Guy Fawkes? Just saying...

So these idiots will protest by disabling NYSE and making dollar fall even lower? Great idea... NOT! They really should spend more time reading books instead of measuring their di*ks.. but their time will come sooner or later, hope they like prison.

This is just completely stupid. First, you have a bunch of neo-hippies protesting businesses because---SHOCK!---the businesses are in it for the money and not "people and social justice". What a bunch of ignorant fools. Then, you have these smooth-brained idiot hackers who cry like little babies because their cause du jour is largely ignored. They act like they have some sort of valid complaint, which they DON'T. It's all made up in their pinheads. Get this straight, folks, the ONLY reason for the existence of ANY business is to make the owners and/or investors money. That's it. People are a resource for that business to make money. People choose to be employed because they want to---SHOCK!---earn MONEY. It really is that simple. Yet we have too many people with way too much time on their hands to concoct wild philosophies and pretend like they mean a thing.

They needed to spanked more as children.

It is not about people making money. If you paid attention to the protests you would know this. It is about the involvement of businesses and their money in US politics. Out politics have become corrupted by corporatism and thusly the average US citizen has no influence any more. Our democracy has lost what made it democratic, our government has stopped working for it's people. Our democracy has stopped fearing it's people. People run the government, not the other way around.

LOL at "We are the 99 percent.", what the hell is that supposed to mean.... I guess they gave it the ole college try, couldn't get to 100 percent though...

It means that they are the majority (as in, 99% of people).

"May God bless this ship and all who FAIL on her." If the LOIC is hosted on Sourceforge , wouldn't it be easy for the authorities to swap the files with one that that phones home to a server owned by TPTB ?( Like Sourceforge are going to object) Would be even more evidence to ensure a conviction if and when that person was caught in the act of being a kiddie scripter.

Really stupid imo, a lot of the general public who own stocks will be affected. What did they do? Why not target, say Goldman Sachs instead?

God are these guys boring anyone else yet? I used to think they carefully picked their targets based on preserving human rights etc. Now they are willfully punishing the innocent by attacking some of the very large institutions that our money relies on.

From a psychological point of view, what is considered as injustice is a real gift to a mind dominated by violence, in this way that it legitimates hate of society. For many, not all, revolution appears in this perspective as a synthesis between ethics and its opposite, that is chaos. This does not mean of course that there is no perversion in our world, only that one does not combat a mistake with another mistake.

I understand if you were born with a silver spoon but some people do not have that option. They are doing what all should be doing and go against those political pigs that ruining the economy. GOP FU saying the only way to live is to higher taxes to the little people, the GOP and Tea baggers are the real pigs.

Yup, they should have stayed in the basement and continued playing their games... or better, use their "skills" to make some internet money (legally). Instead, they choose to f*ck with something much much bigger than them... they'll be off of the net in no time.

Who do you think will really get hurt by this? Normal people with IRA/401k and other retirement monies or the rich? I guarantee you my retirement will disappear LONG before it impacts any corporation or other rich investor.

Think they've kinda forgotton that (most of them being american) if they take down the NYSE, the people that are gonna be most effected are... *wait for it* - Americans!
Wow, they certainly lack intelligence.

5th of Nov.. but that was a hoaks.

The entire financial system is on the verge of collapse anyway, this will simply be used as the scapegoat that made it happen when in fact it was an inevitability - just gives a convenient group to blame. Look into the George Sorros connections to the wall street protests and dig a little, they poked the beehive on purpose.

If the above doesn't happen, then this could have the opposite effect by not allowing all those "expert" financial forecasters to say something like the stock market plunged like there's no tomorrow and installing fear in the global market?

But, yeah, I agree the entire financial system is on the verge of collapse.

The reason they can't show themselves is that people like you group all of them together. If they showed themselves, every time some group within them did something illegal, everyone in the group would be in danger of being arrested (as evidenced by the fairly recent arrests of Anonymous members, some of which were for simply having software installed on their computer).
DDOSing is only a form of peaceful protest anyway. It only denies access to a site, without causing any long-term damage, (similar to protesters blocking entry to a store).

So, in your post you say that people who conduct peaceful protests anonymously are cowards and you hope they die. You somehow managed to say this with a fairly rudimentary grasp of English.

Let me get this straight I make a 1.00 right and the gov wants a quater of it while the rich guy next to me pays 1 penny from his dollar does that seem fair to you?

So all these time you were speechless, only now that a group plans to attack NYSE that you come out of your cave! Injustice is everywhere, it all depends on how you fight it. Not like cowards.

If there is so much as a single law passed that quells a peaceful protest, there is a chance it will inflame the situation. We're already on the brink here.

This is not a peacefull protest.
This is just an excuse for a bunch of nolifer dweebs to pretend they are doing 'good'.
What about those countless of random sites that have been attacked and broken down?

Actual peacefull protest where they block trucks or roads, its actual people with faces and a chance for police/company/government to talk and/or discuss.

Now they are hiding behind the internet, while they're basically fighting for an OPEN and FREE world. Throwing everyone's personal information on the internet. To begin, they should show who THEY are first -.-'

..., and rules are meant to be broken

This will have no effect whatsoever in this people's greed and disregard for the average citizen. They will reboot their sites and continue business as usual.

Sounds great, cause that will not only hurt the big bankers and such, a little bit, but everyone with their own stock, retirement plans, etc, that could also be tanked if they do any serious damage.

I know my hard working mother doesn't wanna retire any time soon, so by all means help wipe out her future.

Yep, real f***ing entertaining watching my 401k disappear, while the rich laugh all the way to the bank with their protected funds that I am not "important" enough to warrant. And if you don't think that is what happens, research why

JP Morgan Chase had to pay more when they bought Bear Stearns..a couple of rich investors felt they were robbed with the fire sale.

Who said they want to destroy it?

This may well be a diversion tactic. DDoS the site, and while all IT folks are working on this, hack into the system and do anything else (that may result in someone making a lot of money).

xbamaris said,

A good amount of stock trading occurs online, to the point where they consider even milliseconds of latency important, so a proper DDOS could probably cause some damage to the world economy at a time when that's probably not for the best... though honestly, it would be alittle entertaining since I have essentially no money to lose.

PSN was down for what a month or more.. imagine the NYSE being down for a month. your milliseconds will mean nothing

I'm a retard but over the last few months trusted core CA's have been hacked. It seems to my retarded ass that more is going on and taking them off the internet isn't a DDOS thought. I think it's hard to run anything without SSL or being trusted these days.
