Apple's Eddy Cue: We've got the best product pipeline in 25 years

Could the iWatch be one of Apple's upcoming products?

We’re used to Apple being coy about their upcoming products but this time the company is taking it to the next level. Eddy Cue, SVP and leader of Apple’s media efforts, said publicly that the company’s upcoming product line-up is the best they’ve had in 25 years.

Talking at a technology conference Cue enticed fans by saying “We’ve got the best product pipeline that I’ve seen in my 25 years at Apple”. Of course no product or feature was ever mentioned but we might start to see those soon enough.

Apple has been seen as stagnating for the last three years with their products getting only iterative upgrades. Of course, their products are still some of the best out there but the competition is moving fast and pushing hard and it seems the Cupertino-based company has been somewhat left behind.

With rumors swirling around about major upcoming updates for iOS, the reveal of an iWatch, new home-automation software and hardware and the ever-present never-true Apple TV vapourware being just ready to hit markets, plus Eddy Cue now adding fuel to the fire, Apple is either ready to blow everyone’s minds or to disappoint a whole lot of people.

In either case we’re less than a week away until WWDC, where the future of iOS should be a major topic of discussion and new features are traditionally announced. So there’s isn’t long to wait before a big reveal.

For their sake, they better. This ISN'T 2007. EVERYONE these days makes tablets, phones etc.
If Apple doesn't have something that is one of those "why didn't I think of that" devices, their market share will continue to decline. They have a rabid loyal fan base, and a near perfect OS, but if they want to continue to grow, they need more "wow" devices.

If there's one thing Apple can do well, that is create marketing buzz. Maybe Eddy should have said "This is the best hyperbole we've been able to come up with in 25 years regardless of our product line up".

Come on writers this would been the perfect place to put something like,

"this time the company is taking it to the next level. Cue, Eddy Cue, SVP and leader of Apple's media efforts" :p
Allthough i doubt they`ll blow anyones minds, allthough maybe with Beats headphones!

devHead said,
I'm sure Eddy is not including the new Beats Audio headphones as part of that lineup.

I'm pretty sure the beats are their big innovation. Oh well when they show something then we discuss how overdone it already is.

They bought the company. Unless blowing your money on a company that produces overpriced junk headphones is now defined as 'innovating', I hope they don't include that in their best product pipeline.

I personally think their best product line up was back in the Mac OS 9-Snow Leopard days (basically the 2000s). I will always remember their ground-breaking technological achievements (ie. the first iPod Nano, dual-finger scrolling, and hundreds of others).

Unfortunately, I doubt that era will ever repeat itself. Today's products just don't have that Jobs-seal-of-approval on them. I can sense when near the latest iMac or (Retina) MacBook Pro that Steve would have wanted to change a few things. I don't think Cook has this sense.

I don't really think it has anything to do with Steve Jobs. It's the way technology works. You have spurts. Apple ushered in a whole new era of products. Until the next big idea comes along that entices consumers, their products won't have that wow factor since their competition is also doing it. I'm looking forward to that next spurt. Regardless of who does it.

Apple ushered in a whole new era of products --- Like???... Please expound/justify for everyone's sake.

What he means is that the revolutionized a whole era of products in the 2000's. You can't deny the impact they had from ipods, iphones, ipads and even the macbook line.
Apple right now is doing exactly what they have been doing the past 10+ years. Watching new products come and go, and then designing them better

Such as laptops with, build quality and battery life. And with great trackpads (with software), the thing no Windows/Linux-based laptop has. Magnetic power-cord (Surface Pro anyone?) Built-in easy to use backup-solution that Windows STILL lacks for crying out loud. The iPod with music store. Just some examples.

You must be young. If you'd follow technology for the past 15-20 years, you wouldn't have to ask that question. Anyhow, Jundor answered your question.

Itll have a bigger screen iphone 6 which theyve blatantly copied from other manufacturers first 3.5inch is perfect, then 4 inch is perfect now its oh damn were completely wrong lets do more copying and patent a 4.816578inch screen. Increased resolution but still there own weird format cus they love copying... then you got the iWatch going make 21million prolly sell 2 million at most.

If there TV set comes to fruition itll be more copying and rediculously priced. so the only thing thats going blow anyones minds is in cupertino where all there lack of work hits home that there a useless copycat company with nothing decent to show. There acquisition of Beats, alot of people reckon there no where near as good as its made out also im surprised the bought it for the music service cus theyd usually of copy and pasted the whole site into there own version then sued beats for stealing there idea which they claim they made 500 years ago, the lawyers dig up something that jobs showed 501 years ago which invalidates the patents due to prior art!!!

[quote=psionicinversion said,] Increased resolution but still there own weird format cus they love copying... /quote]

That's a bit weird no? And…is it a problem to you? I can't remember the last time a person said to me that his resolution was weird.

What are you on?

How is increasing the size of the screen blatantly copying other manufactures since increasing the size of a screen has been done, and done to death, since the invention of the screen?

Because all theyve ever said is how perfect the current screen sizes are so if there that perfect why change it? cus there sheep following the shepherd i.e. every other phone manufacturer out cus there scared theyll lose there only cash cow and go back to being insiginificant

The best product lineup in 25 years? If more of the same is the best product lineup, then wake me up in another 25 years. I'm going back to sleep.

Do some research dude. It is their best product lineup in 25 years and it is pretty diverse. Guess what? Most of Microsoft's products date back a few decades also. What's your point? You've been here less than a month and I am already SMH.

Save us some trouble and research for us and post it here. I Google-d and BING-ed and all I can see on the net is that the new lightning pin connector doesn't support older iPhones and the revamped OS was an inspiration from both Windows Phone and Android UI so, yes, I'm shaking my head too. But don't get me wrong, iPhones are premium products and still selling like hot cakes but other than that, I can't think of anything worth-noting for Apple.

And why bring up member's joined date here. It's irrelevant.

@JHBrown
So what if I have been here for less than a month. So you have been here longer and that magically makes your opinion worth more than mine? Pretty arrogant of you. Look at the number of like I have up to now. It's pretty obvious many people at Neowin value what I have to say.

Yeah they used the former 30-pins connector only for a mere 13 years? Now they've changed the connector to a multi-protocol connector that can be modified at will. Really terrible!

How about that Surface Pro power connector that's not compatible with the former connector! It's just so easy.

I have considered it but I am still undecided. I'll let you know come September. ;-)

You have a lot to learn. People hit "like" on your comments because every one of them bashes Apple. They don't like your comments for substance. For good measure, on the next Apple article, post "Microsoft rules". You'll notice about 30 "likes".

Date is relevant. A quick look at this users 50 post will reveal a staggering amount of comments set up to start flame war. Nothing wrong with stating your opinion, I do it all the time. However, this guys etiquette is lacking.

I don't know, man. Going to a site with a majority pro-Microsoft community, and getting a lot of likes for your anti-anything not Microsoft comments is kind of hard.

True

I have a lot to learn? Really? Let me tell you what I have learned today, you don't like opinions that go against yours. So what do you do? You cry like a baby and throw a tantrum. What's more is that your jealousy is showing when you call everyone an Apple basher that agrees with my opinion. Dude, if you don't like my opinion, all you have to do is clearly state why you disagree with me. But what do you do? You call me an Apple basher and everyone that agrees with me instead of asserting your own opinion. What I learned today is that you need to grow up. What you need to learn is to assert your opinion and the reasons behind it instead of hurling insults. It gets you nowhere.
BTW, there are just as many Microsoft bashers on this site as well.

So stating my opinion on something is starting a flame war? I have news for you pal, if that is what you think I do then everyone with an opinion, including yourself, is a flame war starter. And you are criticizing my etiquette when you hurl insults? Look in the mirror and tell us what you see.

I'm looking, literally. I see one fine looking man. After a now 19 year Air Force career, I look like I'm in my late 20's. Let's see, what else. Almost 6 foot 4 inches, 235(I'm in my bulking stage), finishing up grad school for my post military career, made Senior Master Sergeant a couple of years ago, your typical hot Southern California wife, a beautiful daughter........I must say I'm quite pleased with myself. How's your mirror look?

So not only are you arrogant but you are also full of yourself. Can you say... egotistical? Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the most egotistical of them all?------->JHBrown, that's who.
You're probably more like George Costanza in real life.

I am a very confident man. It's given me many opportunities in life. Egotistical, not. Don't get them confused. George Costanza? I hope that's not your real picture?

OK Mr. confident. If that is what you choose to call it, so be it. Nothing wrong with being confident. But over confident can be just as bad as under confident. Many people make their biggest life mistakes due to over confidence as they try to compensate for something else they are lacking. It just might be you. Especially those that get easily bent out of shape by someone voicing their opinion. Have a good day.

But looking at what has been produced over the years, I would say Apple are the SLACKERS of the technology Industry.

Apple won't release a product until it's truly ready. Samsung per example doesn't care about releasing a whole range of poorly designed products. All that matters is they can say "Look we have a tablet with every imaginable screen size!". Even if the user experience is sub par.

Oh, please.. Siri is still not truly ready, and their iCould is terrible have you missed how people have been locked out from their own devices due to poor security. You guys are so predicable, but I really feel sad for you.

A security bug is different from product refinement. I have never used icloud as I dont have an iphone/exclusively own apple devices, but, I used to be an apple hater then i got a macbook air 2013 cause most ultrabooks were crap and had all sorts of defects/issues(cause theyre built to be cheap). Then you look at phones, most android phones have terrible reskins that lag or just annoy me. I use a nexus 5 phone, but even I am beginning to see some apple appeal after getting an ipad(cause android tabs are total crap with their bugs and defects like the nexus 7 touch issues).

When your devices cease being more than toys, the Microsoft surface/tablet devices, and Apple devices become more appealing because you dont sit there tinkering with it to make it work better.

Funny I have never owned a android device, I do own a iphone and I would call the iphone a toy.

I think the difference is that Samsung throws everything at the wall to see what sticks, while Apple sits more conservatively to see what needs they can fill, and how they can go about doing it the right way.

Of course, Apple doesn't always win with their ideas either, but their track record is probably better than most. Consistency is key after all.
