A new report from analyst Brian Blair of Rosenblatt Securities (via MacRumors) is claiming that Apple will design their smart watch, dubbed the iWatch, in a similar way to Motorola's 360 with a round display. While the design may be similar, Apple's iWatch will be slimmer than the Moto 360, according to Blair.
Production of the iWatch will begin in July with Apple aiming to produce 21 million units within the second half of 2014. In the first quarter of 2014, Samsung shipped 700,000 smart watches meaning that Apple's goal of 21 million units represents a vast increase on these sales. AppleInsider reports that Apple may turn from Foxconn when manufacturing the smart watch, using Quanta Computer instead. The reason for this may be because Foxconn will be busy producing Apple's iPhone 6 - and other devices potentially.
According to Blair's report, Apple may be looking into producing multiple versions of the iWatch with one feature a sapphire crystal display. A report from a KGI Securities analyst - a firm that has a reputation with correct guesses when it comes to Apple - echoes Blair's claims as it would enable Apple to compete with multiple smart watch vendors at different price ranges.
