I reformatted the other day and downloaded this version. I went to installed GRAW2 and Bioshock Demo and AVG is flagging it as a virus.

I work with both options often and I usually see AVG Free as a much more reliable and much less resource intensive choice than Avast! AV. I've never actually seen Avast to have "better" protection and usually is on par or slightly below AVG while slowing the machine down more. Saying that, being free it's still a good choice. But as for myself and others that've tried both, AVG Free wins out.

Avast has better protection and updates twice a day sometimes. Was using AVG till I found out how much better Avast is in detection rates.
