Battlefield Hardline announced, leaked trailer shows cops vs. criminals gameplay

Electronic Arts' next game in its long running Battlefield first person shooter series will move in a completely new direction for the franchise. The publisher announced this week that the game, Battlefield Hardline, won't be a military shooter this time but instead will have a grim and gritty theme as players take on the roles of cops and criminals.

While EA has revealed the title of the game and its basic theme, a leaked trailer showing early gameplay footage has already made its way to the Internet. Xboxygen has posted the over seven minute clip on its DailyMotion page. The trailer refers to the game by its code name "Omaha".

Battlefield Hardline, which is being developed by Visceral Games, will feature players taking on the roles of police officers who will combat highly armed criminals in multiplayer matches, with missions that will include hostage situations, bank robberies and more. The game will also feature a single player campaign where the player will take on the role of a former Miami detective who is going after a criminal organization.

The game will also feature a number of gadgets in addition to firearms, such as smartphones that can be used for detective work, ziplines to traverse over streets and more. EA has yet to reveal which platforms Battlefield Hardline will appear on but it would seem likely it will show up on the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4 and PC.

Update: Looks like EA got the trailer removed

I don't know why they used the Battlefield name, is it because its using frostbite and the assets? This could have been a bold new IP, a more ambitious PayDay/Rainbow 6 Vegas (Minus cover shooting).

The hell. well. R.I.P real battlefield. the true BattleField remains bf2. the best BF game on the earth is bf2. I don't think you should be able to see those amazing air to ground attacks, tanks firing at each other making huge explosions, infantries try to run or dewstroy the heavy vehicles, all that cool things that you see in a battle field in this new title.

DICE is nothing more than a logo for EA now. The real company DICE died when 2142 was released if I recall correctly. Anything around and after that is EA just using DICE's name and nothing more.

If things keep going the way they are, it might end up being closer to the truth than we think. Knee Jerk reaction is that I don't like either, but then again it's been many years since I bought anything from the franchise.

I miss those days in BF1942. Coral Sea with 64 players, never going to get that back...

Then again, they screwed up BF1943, so I don't think they should even bother touching it.

i have been waiting and waiting for that to happen. problem is i'm 41 now. If it ever does happen i'll have the reactions of an OAP and i'll be half blind. :/

The Problem was the publisher pushing the developer to a release before Call of Duty. This failed.. Wouldn't trust EA either. Had BF 1942 BF2 BF3 and now BF4... this was surely my last one

After the B4 debacle I won't trust DICE or EA ever again.

Please don't blame Dice, they are just a game developer and I'm sure they are not happy that one of their biggest games have had such huge problems. I blame the publisher for setting hard dates and pushing things before they are ready.

BF4 is a good game but has been plagued with problems, I'll still buy another game but I hope EA learned their lesson here, remember Sim City?

What they need to do is put a solid couple years into this game to polish it up and make sure it's not a steamy pile of beta crap like BF4 was for the longest time. But being EA, I'm sure it will be out for the holidays. I'll pass.

The way EA works, they'll come out with 1 good game, then go back to their pathetic standards in successive years. Once they know they have a huge customer base, their quality of production declines exponentially and they put more money into marketing the product.

They pulled the same crap with FIFA. FIFA 14 was the WORST FIFA game I have played and I've owned all of them from 2008 onwards. All they did was use the engine from Fifa 09 and 10 and combine a few aspects from FIFA 12. They turned it into an arcade game rather than soccer simulation like its supposed to be. The game was a shambles and nothing close to what soccer enthusiasts enjoy. I have no idea how it won best sports game award. Maybe its because EA owns rights to every other sports game and they're a lot worse.

I've decided not to purchase any more games from EA. I've wasted enough of my money on their crap.

Last I heard the game developer was the team who developed the game....

And the developer is going through a publisher, the publisher sets the rules and the terms, EA made Bioware release Mass Effect 3 early, they made DICE release BF4 early.

Sure. Think what you want.

If companies want a publishers money for a game. There are going to be hefty terms and conditions attached. EA don't just hand over a sack of money and say "take as long as you want! Do what you want! We don't care!"
