Bill Gates part of Forbes' World's Most Powerful People list

Bill Gates is the fifth most powerful person in the world. That's the opinion of Forbes' print magazine and its web site, anyway. Forbes has made a list of what it claims are the 70 most powerful people on the planet. The fact that Gates is considered more powerful than most world leaders, even the Pope, is pretty significant, even if he is no longer working at Microsoft on a day-to-day basis. (Just in case you are wondering, US President Barack Obama is number one on the list).

Instead, he has been working with his wife Melinda to help education here in the US and fighting diseases with vaccines around the world as part of their work with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Forbes said that the foundation's efforts in eliminating infectious diseases as a major source of death could actually succeed.

Other tech luminaries that are on Forbes' most powerful list include Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who is listed as the ninth most powerful person on planet Earth. Sergey Brin and Larry Page, the co-founders of Google, tie for the number 30 spot on the list.

Jeff Bezos, the CEO and founder of Amazon, is on the list at number 40. Robin Li, the CEO of the Chinese-based web company Baidu, is also on Forbes' list at the number 42 position. Tim Cook, the new CEO of Apple, is on the list at 58. One wonders where Steve Jobs might be listed if he had lived to see Forbes post this list.

Off topic but the Pope is #7??

To be honest i dont think anyone really gives a **** what he has to say unfortunately... The world is so corrupt. Why would anyone listen to him? Its not about being good and honest. Its about Money and Power.

the only person that wonders where jobs would have been on the list is you, john. you couldn't resist putting his name in the article could you? take your apple fanboy bull**** elsewhere and stop wasting our time so you can make a quick buck.

also why is Obama number 1? im sorry....no.... leaders are only as powerful as the countries people and resources .... and america is flat broke, out sources everything and its army is not anything to be proud of (not hating on america at this point just saying... i would say he is more like... 8)

zucker made the list cause of his wealth... and the fact he probs has more information on the majority of the world then any government he could probs make more money off blackmail alone.

Bill may have left Microsoft but is fighting bugs anyway. The latest of the more interesting things funded by Gates is a light wall created using lasers and keeping out disease-carrying insects, because those dumb tards are afraid to cross it, even though it does no harm. Of course, the nature adapts. I wonder what will happen when insects find out the loophole? Will the whole project become "too buggy"? The idea is really cool, nevertheless. Billy rocks!

bill gates is not just on the list, he is right up there with people like obama, putin, chineese PM and merkel means even without no real powers, he is one of the most respected and inspiring peson on earth, something the googlers and late steve jobs could never be. despite of all he did, he revolutionised the core industry on which compnies like google, fb and even apple stand and tell the world that microsoft is irrelevant, the fact that even after so many years of leaving microsoft, we still remember him as the microsoft guy who is out there changing thr world again. I have tremendous respect for him and I was really happy when I saw him on the list

One thing missing though, as an Indian, is no Mr. Ratan Tata, he is India's Bill Gates of present...undoubtedly the most honest and remarkable businessmen of our era.

The fact that Zuckerberg is on that list makes me want to shoot myself in the face.

He's 26 and already created a truly disruptive technology. Even Google+ is a lame attempt to copy Facebook. Already I hear discussions that Facebook wants to partner up with Microsoft.

I'm pretty sure FB and Microsoft are already partners.

It's not that he doesn't belong on that list. It's just, why oh why do we live in a society that has allowed him to get there.

EDIT: On the other hand, knowing that Billy G still ranks above him means we haven't failed completely.
