Bill Gates spotted in Windows 8 Times Square launch video

When Microsoft had its massive Windows 8 launch in New York City's Times Square a couple of weeks ago, the company didn't indicate to the press or the general public that the company's chairman Bill Gates might show up. Yet, in a newly posted video from Microsoft showing the launch of Windows 8, Gates is indeed seen, very briefly, inside the Microsoft Store in Times Square.

The video, posted on YouTube, has Gates inside the store and talking to customers (you can see him at the 1:08 mark). It's possible that Gates actually showed up on October 26, the day after the Windows 8 launch. This is because we also spotted a couple of images that were posted on the Flickr account of a man name Tom Starkweather who took two photos of Gates walking around by himself in Times Square on October 26th.

The rest of the video shows what we previously reported Microsoft was doing to help promote Windows 8 in Times Square, including turning a lot of the square's electronic billboards into Windows 8 Start screen tiles. It also included live hardware demos of many Windows 8 PCs. Apparently, one man decided to propose marriage to his girlfriend as part of the demo festivities.

Inconspicuous big dudes in the background!
I know right? The guy in the blue shirt looks like he is a bodyguard. If someone even touches Gates, he is going to flatten their arse !!!

Lets get back on topic shall we. The event looks like it was well done. My question is why aren't they doing that in all major cities all over the world. That one event would attract so much consumer attention in every country the momentum alone would propell so much air time and mind share that the sales would significantly increase in a very short period of time.

I don't know about the whole World, but they definitely are doing this around the U.S. Microsoft is putting up displays like seen in this video in shopping malls all over the country.

Because talking/meeting one of the most influential people of our time is something that most people would want to do.

Why do people care? What would you get out of meeting the guy?

If we were talking about Steve Jobs then I could agree, but Bill Gates?

I think your views would change after meeting him in person.

Not sure if serious....

I'm very serious. I can think of a number of reasons to want to meet Bill Gates. He's easily one of the greatest people to exist on this earth. I can't say the same thing for Steve Jobs. Although that may seem harsh, it's the truth.

Im guessing you don't know what things Bill Gates has done for the world out side of Microsoft?

Yes, if Steve Jobs had shown up at a store for the iPad mini release day, I would choose him over Bill Gates. Who would pass up a chance to meet zombie Jobs?

I think the people replying to your comment are incapable of understanding double negatives.

You are saying that you would agree to the sentiment of "Why do people care?" if we were talking about Steve Jobs but because it Bill Gates you disagree and you think people should care and want to meet him, right?

If so then I don't disagree! :-P

Jobs wouldn't even want to meet you, you're too ordinary for the lord of distortion.

I do apologise. I thought you were saying you would rather meet Steve Jobs over Bill Gates.

I wholeheartedly agree, Bill is one of the, if not the worlds most generous person IMO.

Steve Jobs...really? Lets see...Bill gates is the World's Richest Man. What is Steve Jobs? A dead prick who basically ruin the industry with his expensive half-baked products. Steve Jobs is a nagry, bitter, hypocritical, self-righteous bas*ard.

Bill Gates on the other hand is very mild and tamed. He never bashed Apple, never bashed Jbs or any other company or comoany owner. EVER! Can you say the same about Jobs? NO YOU CAN'T.

if I had ever met Steve Jobs I likely would have slapped him for disowning his child when he had money, stealing the GUI from Xerox and more. Yes Apple makes some nice looking products. But the limitations of them for what they cost are horrible and self-serving which is exactly the type of person Jobs was.

Gates on the other hand is a man worth mentioning and having as a person I would want to meet. He's not a sly sneaky devil like Jobs.
