Activision, the Santa Monica-base publisher, has revealed the next Call of Duty, titled Black Ops. Developed by Treyarch, Call of Duty: Black Ops is set to hit store shelves on November 9, 2010.

So far, only the official website for the game has been unveiled, with a blog post included to welcome users to the website.

“We can’t wait for our community to experience Call of Duty: Black Ops,” said Mark Lamia, Studio Head for Treyarch. “We have focused our entire studio on this game, with dedicated multiplayer, single-player and co-op teams creating the most intense, gripping and riveting experience possible for our fans on all fronts.”

While no further details were revealed, the first trailer for the game will air tonight during GameTrailers TV.

I look forward to seeing what they do with this. Seeing that apparently it's being formed around guerrilla battles and suchlike of the Cold War, how they incorporate this as a storyline will be interesting. Also, in the way of co-op, will they be adding something like Nazi Zombies? Or is it just Co-op. Should be interesting. At least they should know better than to promote noob tubing with having it straight from the beginning. Oh, and thumperrheas.

I will never buy a game again that doesn't have dedicated linux server software available BEFORE a game gets released!

Infinity Ward knows how to make an over hyped game with annoying gameplay and glitches out the wazoo. Treyarch knows how to make quality gameplay and maps with a team that fixes glitches like a champ. I personally cannot wait because World at War is still my favorite Call of Duty.

To be honest this came too fast, I doubt it will be a big success. 5 and MW2 both could use the name as a sales pitch, but seeing as neither really was a critical success, I just don't see them jumping the hurdle. There isn't exactly the incentives of update roster like sport games, and that most crowds won't exactly be jumping at a new COD game yet.

Um, what? MW2 wasnt a critical success? I read that it's sold over $1 Billion world wide. I'm pretty sure they can call that a critical success.

Hmmm... MW2 has a metacritic core of 94.
That's pretty awesome.
What you "gamer" guys seem to forget is that most people don't care about IW, Treyarch, Activision. They see Call of Duty, they get pumped. I for example bougth MW2 on day one, finished the Campaign in 8 hours for the cheevos and never played back. BUt i'm at 17 straight days in multiplayer.
Unlike people here who are so sure that they will love it or hate it for a bunch of dumb reasons, I don't know if i will love it ( played W@W for about 2 hours before never touching it again)... But what I know is that I'll keep an eye out for it, and probably half of my Xbox friendlist will probably too !

ha ha ha that's so pathetic ..... every one who calls himself a gamer thinks that bashing Treyarch is cool ... in the end everyone saying "oh noezz Treyarch sackz" will end playing anything they made like a brainless monkey...

I'm done with Cod. Cod4 was the last good one. If treyarch made a 100% zombies game i'd buy it. I KNOW THERE IS l4d but they are VERYY different.

Same here, MW2 is going to be my last CoD game that I buy in a long time. CoD 4 was the last game that i felt that was made with great quality and experience. World at War, it felt like a good game but it wasn't up there. MW2, now that just felt like a expansion pack. I have almost every CoD (main) game (including the original), and the brand to me is starting to die down.

Check out Killing Floor.

Seriously... another one already...?

I'm assuming you're new to COD. There is a new COD every single year, usually in November. The only difference is who makes the game.

COD4 - IW
COD: W@W - Treyarch
MW2 - IW
COD7 - Treyarch
and 2 titles in 2011- maybe one by Respawn (all former IW employees) and by Sledgehammer, the new developer.

Respawn aren't going to be making Call of Duty games, Activision still own the rights to the name. Infinity Ward still exists it just has a lot of it's key staff missing.

The name. So could they call it something else but use the same engine and what not?

It doesn't have to be a CoD, I'm sure with the background of these people, whatever they put out as an FPS will be good. CoD4 was revolutionary, and although MW2 has some s***ty factors that are easily exploited, their products were great works. Well, mostly. Nobody complains about CoD4 on forums, and I can still pretty much get instant helicopters =D

I don't understand why there is such negativity towards this. We should be looking forward to something truly spectacular. Remember, this is only the announcement. Resigning to conclusions now is, quite frankly, stupid.

Hear that Infinity Ward? Dedicated MULTIPLAYER. Yeah.

You are obviously not reading the full sentence.

Reading fundamentals seem to be escaping you right now:

“We have focused our entire studio on this game, with dedicated multiplayer, single-player and co-op teams creating the most intense, gripping and riveting experience possible for our fans on all fronts.”

That means they have dedicated "teams" not servers. There's different groups working on the different parts of the game. Nothing new about that.

Well, thank god for that. IW never designs maps for multiplayer. They're always just single player cut outs that play horribly.

I thought the CoD4 MP maps were superb on the whole, and MW2's weren't too bad either. Anyway, just because they have dedicated team for MP doesnt mean they're going to be seperate maps from SP levels, infact I'd bank on them being extracts from SP as pretty much every single game does that.

This is hard. I mean I can't tell if this will suck or be very good. CoD5 was kind of a fail so hopefully they will listen to the user feedback and produce something worth buying.

COD3 was by TreyArch and it was fail too... although I'll admit I didn't hate COD5, it just got boring pretty quickly.

IMO i think Call of Duty peaked back around the time it was first introduced. after a while it got a little repetitive although i think Call of Duty 4 was decent but most of the new ones are just barely updating from that.

overall Call of Duty is overrated nowadays but i would still take it over the vastly overrated Halo series.

p.s. the best game of 2010 = Mafia II (due out Aug 2010) ... the first game was a masterpiece. as that's probably my favorite single player game of all time because of the initial experience it gave me when i first beat it. even to this day it's still fun and i can't say that about many other games in that general time frame or older.

I think you've copied and pasted this on several forums in the past few months. Not to get off topic, but I quit playing Mafia after that stupid race mini-game. Masterpiece is pretty strong, I'd say more ho hum than anything.

Back on topic, not really looking forward to this next COD. Activision going to keep milking this tired franchise.
