Many of the new apps for Windows phones have recently focused on Windows 10 Mobile - but just one-tenth of active Windows handsets are running the latest version of the OS, and many older devices will never be upgraded.
So it's perhaps not surprising that global car rental giant AVIS has launched its new app not just for Windows 10 Mobile handsets, but also for those running Windows Phone 8.1, allowing the company to reach far more of its customers than if it had developed solely for the new OS version.
As MSPoweruser notes, AVIS previously released a Windows Phone 7 app in 2011, but it then steered clear of the platform following the launch of Windows Phone 8. The new app is similar in design and features to its iOS and Android counterparts, and enables users to:
- Book cars and vans
- Add extras to rentals
- Find AVIS locations
- Log in to save time on future bookings
- Manage existing bookings
- Track loyalty benefits
