Confirmed: Splinter Cell: Conviction not coming to PS3

Ubisoft has confirmed to VideoGamer.com that Splinter Cell: Conviction, announced as a PC and Xbox 360 title, will not be coming to PS3 and will not be coming out on April 1, as previously rumoured. Yesterday online reports suggested the game was set to appear on Sony's next-gen console - a rumour sparked by UK specialist retailer GAME, which listed the title on its website.

However, speaking to VideoGamer.com today, a spokesperson for Ubisoft clarified the situation, saying the retailer made a mistake, the game was not coming out on the PS3 and laughed off the suggested April 1 release date. "This is just a mistake by the retailer. The game is not coming out on PS3 nor is it coming out on April 1. We're sticking to the original announcement", said the spokesperson.

The news will come as some disappointment to PS3 owners who had hoped to see the title appear on Sony's console. In November last year Ubisoft announced that Splinter Cell: Conviction had slipped, with a vague fiscal 2008-2009 (April 08-March 09) release date penned. Unfortunately Ubisoft couldn't offer a more concrete date at this time.

another reason the ps3 isnt going to pick up this year, microsoft has sprung a wad of cash on developers which means more exclusivity and more sales due to more 360's out there.
Same as GTA4, their bringing out exclusive content for the xbox 360 only aswell. now why would you go spend more money on a console that hasnt got any decent games? I just wrote somewhere else i was gona get a ps3 for xmas, but im really glad i didnt with news like this.

I just got a PS3 a week ago, to bad though about this game. I'm not a really big fan of the splinter cell games so I wouldn't have bought it anyway for my PS3. Might download it for the PC though :worried:

pretty sure that be a YES

Imagine yourself as the developer ... why on earth you would make a PC game these days. Sure you get the odd person that buys the game but its not the majority.

Easy to port from the X360 version.

PC Gamers = Hardcore Gamers

thats where real gaming is

I don't understand the reasoning for not coming out for the PS3. I mean yes I know 360 software sales kill the PS3, but even a "quick" port could still probably get you 100k easily on the PS3. It would definately make some level of profit I'd think.

I think that's maybe part of the problem, the PS3 is so different to the PC and Xbox360 that a quick 'port' isn't possible.
