Dell "Mini Inspiron" aims to take on EeePC

Gizmodo Bumped into Michael Dell at all things digital and scooped a world exclusive.

It's a small form factor notebook, just like the Asus Eee and the HP 2133. Michael Dell wouldn't tell Gizmodo what OS it's running, or the pricing, but that it's a low-cost notebook meant for developing countries. From the pictures posted up you can see three USB ports, a card reader and VGA out. Many in the industry refer to laptops like the HP 2133 and Asus Eee as "netbooks" aimed at the developing world and general consumers.

Dell has not released pricing or specifications for this new notebook.

Over at the official Dell blog there are some official pictures to backup Gizmodo's story and it seems Dell may be releasing official specifications very soon. Stay tuned.

Looks good although am waiting for actual specifications and prices. Wonder how it will compare to the Eee and the MSI Wind.

Lets hope DELL will be smart to offer the dual-core Atom CPU to give it some edge in power over all the others....

I'm disappointed by the poor performance of the Atom. The new VIA Nano seem better, well, even the Celeron is better.

This is from Dell? Let me guess the price... $1500. This is the same dell that sells a Tablet PC for $3000, well equipped.

Even if it was that much, that's still cheaper than the MacBook Air. Guess it'll all come down to what kind of specs we're looking at.

Yeah, but the Air isn't quite in the same category. It's a 13-inch laptop, whereas this Dell is supposed to be in the same range as the Eee, which is a 7-inch laptop.

Yes but you forget that dell offers some insane discounts with coupons and stuff. so that $1500 can easily be brought down to under $1000

if it was at that price, then it's no longer competing with the Eee.

for comparison, a inspiron 1525 starts between $500-600 (here in canada, and most likely in the states too). with lower specs, this mini version should be well under the starting price of the 1525

Eh, no thanks. WAY too small for someone with big hands. I find it to be enough of a pain in the butt to try to type on one of their Inspiron 700m laptops.

I did like this, with the bright red shiny gloss cover, but.......

looking at the hand on laptop picture, its only looking slightly smaller then a Powerbook G4 12" and not in the same scale as the 9" Asus eeepc
