Doom III Tweaking: Hot News!

The Inquirer has gotten itself into a Doom 3 frenzy, contributing to the popularity of the just released fps title "Doom 3" by posting a single tweak that can in some cases raise the fps (frames per second) by 10 or more! Here follows the blurb:

All you have to do to speed up your Doom III is to change one key in Doomconfig.cfg file and your game will go much faster, it's claimed.

We haven't had a chance to try this out ourselves, so do so at your own risk.

The report is that if you find Doomconfig.cfg file in the base directory for the path you installed Doom 3 and open it in Notepad, and edit one line, the game will go faster.

When you find seta image_cacheMegs "32" you change 32 number to 96 or even 128 or 256 and your Doom will go faster, it's claimed.

These guys here that found this key haven't tried any benchmarks yet, so it remains to be tested.

I tried several numbers. It seems to work

You'll see cache being used if you run timedemo twice in a row. First is slow the second time is much faster due to cache being used

Well, the first couple of levels look quite the same (corridors, people and enemies). As long as you have enough room in your cache I think it'll help in terms of speed
