Download the Windows 8 default wallpaper here

With Windows 8 RTM right around the corner, true candidate builds are already in the hands of many for voting and scrutinizing. If you have been salivating about getting your hands on, what is believed to be the default Windows 8 wallpaper, we have the image posted below for your right-mouse clicking pleasures.

While we can't personally confirm that this is the default screen, the evidence is supported by several posts over at techit.co.il and do align with previous images that have surfaced around the web. Enjoy

XP: blue and green mess.
Vista: green and blue mess....it resembled a strange psychedelic crazy house.
7: plain boring line art. very uninspired mostly solid.
8: clean and bright, and a plus for getting rid of the CG crap from 7 and vista. But as far as photographs, not the best they could get.

Why do people feel that their opinions matter at all to a big corporation like Microsoft. Especially the 5% of people who read tech blogs. Most people, and by that, I mean the oblivious idiots I see every day, will like this wallpaper. People my dad's age won't be concerned about the default wallpaper so much as "Where the f*ck did the desktop go?" or "Where the f*ck is the start button?" They will buy it because it's cheaper than any windows upgrade has been before and when they get it they won't even understand how to use it. There is no reason to post the inane comments as seen above, when almost half of the people that get windows 8 won't understand how to even get to the desktop. At least, that's my input.

The only major gripe i would have with it is that it has passed the
brightness level / factor for me personally. (it's too bright)
I always use the darkest possible colors on everything on my OS.

I'm just so sick and tired of eveything conceivabele across the world
being a piercing bleach bright white !
It burns my damn eyes having to stare at screens at closer range.
I do things such as use grease monkey color conversion scripts
to flip / invert color schemes across the net.
Personally i think this issue is huge problem

Default wallpapers are what they are default! Whenever I fix any 1s computer I generally get a picture of a family member or animal that was taken on the lowest resolution camera phone of the day and stretched... not even centred to keep the quality or aspect ratio ... all ways set back to default theme just so it doesn't pixelate my eye's, that's before re-enabling the virus checker and installing the service packs, hot fixes, virus checker updates (looking at 320x240 picture of a dog @ 1280x1024 every 15mins of 2hours fix up on a winxp machine makes me wanna pull my eyes out! ) that they didn't think the needed… but to me a standard wall paper at the end helps me think …. All fixed!

Light-sourcing, 3D-depth, shadows, blur... why aren't the Metro-ites up in arms?! ;-)

Maybe someone can redo it in Lego, for that full on Metro experience?

When I think of Windows 8 I think of a bunch of boring squares. I guess this is a step up in terms of imagery, but still pretty boring.

Keep in mind you're going to be spending so much time in the Metro environment you'll never even SEE your wallpaper!

... Right?

Man... I really like the blue tints, how clean and light it is... but not the 'object' the flower.

MS has really tradition in bad wallpaper choices.

Anno 2012 Microsoft is still under the impression no one owns screens with a larger resolution than 1920x1200? Amazing. Apple has been bundling much higher resolution desktop pictures with OS X since 2003 or something.

So because this third-party site only has one resolution it means the installation will only have one? OS X has also had basically the same exact wallpapers in every release since 2003.

Actually, yes. In the Release Preview all of the regular wallpapers are 1920x1200, while the multi-monitor wallpapers are 3840x1200.

People aren't expecting Microsoft to future-proof their wallpaper selections for the upcoming high-DPI monitor. However, 2560x1600 is a standard resolution. In fact I'd be surprised if a lot of Microsoft employees weren't using such a resolution. It seems a very strange move, especially when storage space just isn't an issue like it used to be. It's very lazy.

So far all the previews spotted wallpapers at 129x1200, so it isn't exactly farfetched. Also, do more research before posting next time instead of spreading nonsense around: The Tiger-erra desktop pictures with a 2560 x 1600 resolution aren't present in either OS X Lion or Mountain Lion. They've been fully replaced by new 3200 x 2000 resolution ones. Not to mention the fact Mac OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard spotted additional new desktop pictures alongside the older ones too.

interesting you say that because windows 8 has dual screen wallpapers.

Which are nothing more than two 1920 x 1200 wallpapers when it boils down to size.

The wallpapers in the RTM are still only 1920 x 1200. Shocking. Definitely didn't see that one coming huh?

HAHAHA, it is rather surprising how few people changed that wallpaper. I've found that to be less common with other versions of Windows personally.

Only reason i don't have default Win7 wallpaper is cause i have the bing bar installed and it changes my wall daily to bings picture. Otherwise i would have default. I have a few gfs and a nice car so i dont need it on my wallpaper.

is that so, because when it was shown EVERYBODY hated it. which means this one will be a HIT.

I think us reviewers have taken better image on our camera phones . I'll give the wallpaper a 4/10 - you continue to disappoint me Microsoft.

Apparently there are far more people out there who love it. Otherwise it would not have been selected.

Windows 8 is made for gay men and women right?

Don't get me wrong, that's a beautiful image.... but for the default Windows wallaper? I'm not so sure... Something more "neutral" would have been a better choice no?

I can't imagine a 30yo male using this wallpaper.... his wife will love it though

So because I say heterosexual men usually don't like/use wallpapers with flowers, I'm gay? You must be a GREAT psychologist

Flowers being linked to homosexuality as a stereotype has only really been popularised in the last century. For one, the derogative term "pansies" doesn't help. Either way, gardening, or otherwise enjoying viewing flowers as a photo or in your garden isn't a pleasure only enjoyed by homosexuals.

Anyway, he's obviously trolling.

On a more interesting note, I feel that much of the Winoows 8 wallpapers may find the number eight shape in various natural settings.

Let's hope not. I don't want you on our side!

All joking aside, it's a beautiful image, but I don't think most men will be in love with it. There are plenty of other depth-of-fieldy backgrounds to choose from. I would have chosen something with the same impact and serenity, but a little more "neutral" than a flower.

Good for you my friend. My fiancee's best friend is gay, and I know him enough to know he won't use it. His boyfriend will probably though

agreed

i can see clearly what you mean.
And i'll spare you all the "i have a gay friend who like its" routine etc....
you know whats coming if you point out the obvious

Which made it all the more hilarious in the "Police Academy" movies when Deacon Jones played first a florist, then cross-dressing bait. (Nor was it Jones first acting role as a cop - he was one of two FBI agents - the other being fellow former NFLer Dick Butkus - in the "Blue Thunder" TV series.)

To me, it seems weird because portraits a single object; the use of cliffs, green hills, desert dunes etc. etc. would give more depth and a sense of "space".

Said that there will be several ones therefore it should not be an issue.
I will keep my Zabriskie Point image though.

I don't think it's soothing. All that blue is just screaming. (My opinion anyway. Others may like it)

Could you please post some links, I need some good wallpaper(s) for 2x1080p if possible : ]

DeviantART does have a search function

I'd highly recommend Vladstudio (http://www.vladstudio.com/). It costs money to get the higher resolution versions but there is a huge selection and they support Retina displays (2880x1800), Facebook's Timeline and multi-monitors (up to 3*2560x1600).

You can even get the source .PSD files for some of the wallpapers to make changes in Photoshop, as well an an option to bulk-download all wallpapers of a particular resolution. The wallpapers beat anything that Microsoft has to offer.
