Dream.WinCustomize.Com Launched!

As reported earlier, Microsoft has made a preview of its animated wallpaper Ultimate Extra, Windows DreamScene available.

Today, Neowin.net partner site, WinCustomize.com, has launched the officially sanctioned Windows DreamScene community, Dream.WinCustomize.com in which users of Windows DreamScene can download additional animated wallpapers (right now) that are in the new .Dream format that has been designed with animated wallpapers in mind.

Artists can also create and submit their own animated wallpapers to Dream.WinCustomize.com. The site's new preview system allows users to see animated wallpapers in a preview before downloading as well.

So what do we need to use a dream scene wallpaper.
1- .dream file
2- Stardock deskscapes
3- A vista dreamscene ultimate extra (not yet released )

am i right ?

From the site,

Dreams are high quality visualizations that run exclusively on Windows Vista Ultimate and transform the static wallpaper users spend all day looking at into a world of motion and activity.

Dreams are subtle, looped motion videos or animations that bring new life to the desktop without slowing down your PC. Watch a serene nature scene while you type an email. Glance at a meteor shower as you work on a document. Make your desktop interesting again with for WindowsĂ‚® DreamScene™ and Windows Vista™ Ultimate.

These people either think we're not doing anything on the computer but staring at the desktop, or we have quite large screens to let us work with the desktop still visible.

I have a better idea, listen to some calm music when working.. It archieves a similar effect without the distraction, it doesn't require screen space.

So you're saying you don't use wallpapers? Just some big solid color?

People like wallpapers. That's why so many people are interested. Wallpapers have always been popular with people. Having them be animated just adds spice to it.

Another pointless stardock addition which gets front page news. It was either a slow news week or more of the usual stardock leaching of Neowin.

Go troll elsewhere, this is actually a nice product and normally I'm not a fan of most stardock products, but I have to say this is making me want to use them again.

Also don't bash a companies products if you don't like them, unless they have actually caused you issues directly.

Even then attack the issue, not everyone involved.

I can't believe people actually sit at their computer just to stare at the desktop... and pay money for it.

It's free. What's there to pay for?

People get Windows Vista Ultimate because they want the business features and media center features together in a single package.

Ultimate Extras (like Windows DreamScene) are just little extra goodies Microsoft has made for Ultimate users.

You have to pay 19$ for it. For the Subscribers that is.

I hate screensavers and absolutely adore DreamScene. It's all just a matter of personal taste.

DreamScene + Transparency of Aero is very impressive.

I'm not sure when they say it doesn't take any resources what exactly do they mean?

on QX6700 with 4gb of high performance ram + 2x 8800GTS cards (multimonitor setup - 2x 20" lcds and 1x 24" lcd) my computer becomes completely unusable. The CPU usage spikes to almost 50% alone and dragging windows and similar actions is very slow.

Btw, I'm using Windows Vista x64 fully legal and updated.

It's probably the really poor state of nVidia drivers and the fact that SLI doesn't work properly yet.

You're only getting 1 card to output really and on top of that the video acceleration on the nVidia side is screwed right now.

I have a Core2Duo E6600 with 3GB of great ram and 1 lonely Radeon X1300 and my CPU usage even while posting on here and viewing all the flash and stuff on pages only sits around 10%.

If that solution worked, millions of people would be using them.

The idea behind what Microsoft has done with Windows DreamScene is that you can have animated wallpaper that doesn't mess up your desktop or interfere with your work in any way.

One could think of their current wallpaper as being a single frame wallpaper and Windows DreamScene simply being more than 1 frame.

Animated wallpaper?

Meh. BTDT.

Active desktop, page full of festive Javascript (could a real Java or Flash applet be used), and it's an animated desktop.

On Windows 2000, and probably even 98.

I just saved you $400. If you'd like to thank me, send $20 to...

Whar he said is real.
It can be done in 98-XP
You can place any webpage as desktop wallpaper. And webpages have animations you know?
