Facebook overhauls profile pages

Just now, Facebook made available it's latest overhaul of profile pages on the site. The update is an overhaul of the entire Facebook experience, and brings alot of changes to the site.

By visiting the Facebook Profile page, you're able to try out the new experience, or just get more information about the upgrade. The new profile highlights key areas of your information, focusing on introducing the user, featuring their friends that matter, new ways to share experiences, and overhauled photo and friends pages too.

The upgrade, which is available now to all, is one of the largest overhauls Facebook has seen this year. Changes on this magnitude always seem to generate hate towards Facebook, but the update represents a large amount of work from the team.

To try the new update out for yourself, go to Facebooks "new profile" page. A quick word of warning, though; the change is permanent, and there is no way back. Once it is switched on, all of your friends profiles (whether they have switched it on or not) will appear using the same format.

I agree with you FrostAM. This change should be voluntarily and if Face people don't like they should have the option to reverse to the original layout. If my friend decides to change, why should my layout change because I am connected to him? I am not changing till something is done about this. The layout looks good but the comments here don't wanna make the change now.... I can wait.

I don't mind this update, I just wonder why Facebook changes their layout every few months. By the time I get used to it, it changes again.

Don't like it at all. Why do I have to see huge thumbnails of my pics at the very top and see a dozen pics of my friends on the right?

Also don't like that I have to click "status" to type a message and I really miss the "friends in common" feature. I know it's still there, but I have to navigate to get to it now which is kinda dumb if you're just browsing friends' profiles.

No you don't, it's on the right.

They really need to add a "Dislike Button" for statuses and comments and such. Why is there a "Like Button" but no "Dislike Button" ?
Doesnt make sense to me.

you are right, there should be a dislike button. also i find that the big thumbmain of friends and ling list really annoying. not speaking of the ads, they take half of my profile page!!!

No point in exaggerating. The ads on the new profile are no bigger than the ones on the main page. And neither are anywhere close to half the page.

Zuckerberg has already stated that a dislike button implies negative aroma. To like is positive.

I like it, but the do need to fix it. The classes don't work and they need to add buttons for videos and links. It doesn't make sense to have them as options to post to peoples page but not sort them. The filter feature should return.

Anyone realise that the "sponsored links" part takes up a lot more of the page now?

yeah noticed that too! Sucks man.....

F**K. I simply don't like it. Three very very major points go against it.

- Status message on the top was too addictive. It is missing now.
- No friend of yours would want to see that much info about you everytime they visit your profile right there on the top!!!! That doesn't make any sense!
- I kind of liked "What's in your mind?" field!! Where is it now?

Looks good. Only thing I don't like is that you have to click status to see the status box. I liked that being there all the time, so I can quickly type.

Hm... I kind of like it for the most part, but the tabs (Like XBox Live and such) seem to be gone. What a weird design omission...

Yeah, there's a few things omitted. You can't sort by posts from an individual or from their friends, for example.

I'm curious as to how Facebook chooses the order of the friends displayed in the Friends tab on everyone's profile pages. If you keep refreshing it, they move around randomly, but people who are on top stay relatively on top, and bottom relatively on the bottom. The people on the top also seem to be people I'm more interested in. That could be because I've interacted with their wall, appeared with them in photos, but I can't help but notice because there a few people who I just happen to look at their profiles often, but never really talk to them who appear on the top of the list as well.

I'm liking it too. I didn't read that i can't go back but i don't mind it at all

EDIT - Should probably put that part in bold about not being able to switch back or a major note at the top of the message!

Ive only noticed names being on top of status updates. Which is gonna take some time to get used to.

It's been like that for a few weeks now... -- Neowin has an article about this.

Where do you post your status?!

Umm it says "Share - Status Question Photo..." etc, just click Status and share away!

Chances are, it was listing your recently interacted friends, friends who you've done something or another with on facebook.

Account -- Edit Friends --> List "all friends"

am I the only one getting a LOT of ppl I'm not even friends with?

I'm getting this, I usually have about 25 friends but now I've got 500...something is wrong...

Working fine for me. 57 friends, just like always.

Is there a "Bring back the old Facebook" group yet?

The main reason I groan when I see Facebook make changes is because their testing process seems to fail miserably every time.

Only thing I don't like is what use to be the friends box is now a massive list with huge pictures, I don't even use it that much. I like the rest but why is the friends bit so big ?

I like it. My only issue is there's too many data entry fields. Nobody is going to bother writing so much stuff about themselves. Useless.

It asks you to add what languages you speak, without presuming you speak the language in which it asks the question. Clever!
