Facebook starts rolling out new Like and Share buttons

Facebook introduced the Like button back in 2010 and together with the Share button, they are viewed over 22 billion times daily across more than 7.5 million websites.

Now the company has given those buttons a fresh coat of paint and are currently rolling out the new buttons worldwide in a staggered process.

In a post on the Facebook Developer Blog, they point out the new changes:

Today, we're introducing a new design for both Like and Share to help people share more great content across the web. We're already seeing a favorable increase in Likes and Shares with the new design and will be rolling these buttons out to everyone in the coming weeks.

The blog further points out that if you are seeing the old Like and Share buttons, that you will automatically be upgraded "over the next few weeks".

Finally, creating a Like and/or Share button on your website has also been updated to make it easier to implement on your website as well.

Whatever you feel about Facebook or social media in general, the buttons provide an easy way to allow websites like Neowin to get referrals for the content, and therefore is a welcome update.

Always a good laugh when I come across these buttons on sites....along with the twitter ones and whatever else.

Cue epic slowdown and crap performance from the site. Neowin being amateurs and falling for it themselves instead of manually coding them for drastically reduced requests.

See that? 22 billion times a day across 7.5 million websites. That's why its always amusing to me when people say Facebook is going to tank because their userbase dropped slightly. FB is pretty much ingrained in the internet and its not easily ever going to go away.

New buttons look nice too

I can predict how this roll out will go.. no change at all after 6 months.
At least they didn't put an useless list to opt in for this where the people who don't opt in will get it earlier..

Yeah same here. I've been on the list for ages now. What's the point of letting people sign up if it takes this long? Just saying...

Now that my new network CDTuts is just about finished with the basics, I've been anxious to work with the new Developer API's of Facebook. I love the changes that they're making it makes me cry at night in the Eastern Timezone just in case the server isn't automatically set for my location.

Does any developer here know how to disable read permissions on the connect via Facebook app that we have? We've had that alert for ages but I can't for the life of me find where to disable it

Replies don't seem to be working on firefox, but in response to TechAddict:
I signed up for the newsfeed beta the day they were taking submissions, still not in it to this day.
My brother however got it a month after his opt-in, and that was 5 months ago...

Probably doesn't help if my language is set to norsk, everything new only works on English US

I might be able to help you with that. Luckily this is PHP you're using to query the parameters.

All we did is configure the default options in IPB for login using Facebook, we didn't code the login via Facebook ourselves.

Normally it relies in the plugin code itself, that's where the parameters are automatically set along side the App settings in Facebook Developers, which may be disregarded.

I never knew Invision made the feature integrated, I was planning on getting IPB again after all these settings.

But anyways, PM me when you can, you'd need to run tests through the Graph API Explorer on Facebook.

HOW ABOUT ROLLING OUT THE NEW NEWS FEED FOR DEV'S SAKE.

I'm still waiting for this as well. It's been a ridiculously slow roll out.

Signed up for the waiting list the day it came out and haven't gotten it either. A friend who doesn't even remember signing up for the waiting list has it, however.

I don't understand why it's not already rolled out. There doesn't appear to be any problems with it.
