FarStone VirtualXP 1.0

As Microsoft no longer provides security updates or technical support for Windows XP operating system, Windows XP is now under threat of harmful viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. For the sake of allowing users to keep running applications and accessing data on XP, FarStone developed VirtualXP to convert XP system to a Microsoft virtual disk, which can be run on Windows 7/8 or Windows Server 2008/2012’s virtual machine.

XP virtual machine is safer since it runs above Windows 7/8 or Windows Server 2008/2012 platform with extra security protection from the host environment. VirtualXP will ensure that any XP system and its applications can continue to be used, preserved, and backup on a new Windows system.

Key Features:

  • Convert Windows XP to virtual machine
  • Free for non-commercial use
  • Allows you to continue running XP and its applications on Windows 8
  • VirtualXP can convert Windows XP and 2003 systems

I'm going to give this a try because there is an old reference cd-rom we use at work which refuses to play nicely with Windows 7.

The main problem with Virtualization is Driver support, some of the old drivers (modem, pci cards) does not work with Virtualization, since Windows XP cannot detect the real hardware.
