Fitbit announces the Alta HR, adding a heart rate tracker

Fitbit announced a new version of its Alta fitness tracker today, which is called the Alta HR. The main new feature is heart rate tracking, as the 'HR' in the name implies.

According to the company, there are a number of benefits that come with the feature, such as the ability to better measure calorie burn. Sleep tracking will be improved as well, since your heart rate will allow the tracker to see the different stages of sleep. The wearable device will also display a target heart rate during exercise, and monitor your resting heart rate.

The ability to monitor resting heart rate is impressive, considering that the device also promises better battery life than its predecessor, with up to seven days. Another new feature is that you can set bedtime reminders that tell you when you need to wind down.

It comes in a number of band colors, including black, blue gray, fuchsia, and coral, but there are also special edition Alta HR devices, including a soft pink band with a 22k rose gold-plated tracker, or a black band with a matte gunmetal tracker. There will also be a leather collection, an option with a metal bracelet, and designer collections from PUBLIC SCHOOL, Simply Vera Vera Wang, and Tory Burch. You can pre-order it today for $149.95, and it will be sold in stores next month.
