Gangnam Style becomes the most viewed YouTube video ever

On July 15, a new video was posted to YouTube. As with the vast majority of videos uploaded to Google's service, it received little notice from the general public.

A few weeks later, however, the entire world started to check out the clip that featured wild dancing and a few explosions. And now "Gangnam Style," the music video for the hit song by Korean pop musician PSY, has officially become the most-viewed YouTube video of all time.

According to YouTube's official charts page, "Gangnam Style" has reached more than 806 million views, surpassing the previous number one, "Baby" by Justin Bieber, which was uploaded over two years ago.

In a post on the YouTube Trends blog, it's noted that "Baby" still generates as much as 500,000 views a day – an amazing achievement for a video that was posted in February 2010. The interest in "Gangnam Style" continues to well outpace "Baby," however, as it generates between seven to 10 million views a day.

The same blog post also points out that the official PSY YouTube channel has exceeded one billion views. Bieber will likely stay ahead of PSY on that front for quite for some time, as his official YouTube channel currently has more than three billion views.

What a moronic post.

Do not try to be a taste-king and decide what other people can like or not.

Then, do you like it or not?.

This is proof most people have awful taste in music.
Yeh i watched it and didnt really get it , its just a fat asian man dancing around like an idiot to a tune that sound like it was ripped off the lmfao's album, who were also terrible. Im glad i dont listen to a lot of this mainstream ****.

Hipster

definitely better than justin bieber, so i'm happy.

anyway, this is a huge problem that the internet needs to solve. Most of the things online seem to reflect popular opinion - and the popular opinion isn't always right. Sites like Youtube need to become less avant-garde....but that might mean giving a little bit of itself up for Vimeo.

Which one is more annoying? Gangnam Style or my avatar?
easy... gangnam Style

On a sidenote, the first time i saw this, it was in a thread titled 'Open condom style' which was actually kinda funny. Then I heard it a second time, third time and millionth time and now I hate the song so much.

Don't hate it so much though... Later on, you'd love it so much because you hated it so much...

no wonder the world is pretty effed up... 80's music alone summed up doesn't come close to this number of views... this generation is s*****d

Utter drivel.

God for bid someone has different tastes than you.

That's because there was no Internet in the 80s my dear. Clearly.

I heard this song come on in a shop a few weeks ago and I just said "... really?" to the person on the till. They just shrugged and said "... I don't know. "

The comments section on Neowin is many many times more unbearable & moronic than Gangnam Style or Justin Bieber.

About Justin Bieber and Usher, i wonder how Usher found Bieber on Youtube, did he search for "hot blonde canadian girl","pre-teen canadian" or something like that?.

I watched it. Then I felt a bit sad at the thought: That so many people could really be going mad for this!!!
Seriously, it can't be for the music can it...?
It can't be for the video can it? why? you find it 'funny'?
Really?
Well I suppose humour has many facets but to me it is childish moronic cr*p and the song is in the same category as the video.
It saddens me, for a second or two, that there is a world out there of people who want to spend their time hyping about something as puerile as this!

Looks like Gangnam Style will be the first Youtube video to one billion views. It's at 823m right now.

Also its reprise, a duet with Hyuna (the K-pop lady who is the "love interest" in the original music video) is at 165m viewers.
