Google says Microsoft's Yahoo buy might hurt Internet

Google Inc, the world's leading search engine, said on Monday it was concerned about the free flow of information on the Internet if Microsoft Corp were to succeed in acquiring Yahoo Inc.

Last month, Microsoft proposed buying Yahoo in a deal originally worth $44.6 billion, but Yahoo's board has rejected the offer, saying it was too low.

"We would be concerned by any kind of acquisition of Yahoo by Microsoft," Chief Executive Eric Schmidt told reporters.

"We would hope that anything they did would be consistent with the openness of the Internet, but I doubt it would be."

Schmidt pointed to Microsoft's past history and "the things that it has done that have been so difficult for everyone", but he did not elaborate.

Last year, a European court upheld a landmark 2004 decision that Microsoft abused the near-monopoly power of its Windows operating system to damage competitors, along with a 497 million euro ($695 million) fine.

I hope Microsoft Yahoo deal goes success... Google is really crying over things.. its gona just hurt Google not Internet.. and if Google really thinkst hat.. why not Google putting its bid?

If MS buys Yahoo, this automatically puts them in 2nd place without really having to earn it. Will MS use this fact to bolster uptake statistics of any changes they may make or of the deal itself? We won't really even see the affects MS could have until long into the future, so who knows how it will all end up anyway.

Whatever happened to pride and competing in a positive way? Whatever happened to producing a better product? What these children (Google) are doing is disgusting, and I hope people can see through it.

Again we see Google is whining like a little bitch. What a shocker. They really need to grow up or just go stomp off to their room and slam the door like any teenage girl (or my ex boyfriend).

Looks like Google's hypocrisy on it's "do no evil" policy is in full force. Let's look at the statements a little more carefully:

"We would be concerned by any kind of acquisition of Yahoo by Microsoft," Chief Executive Eric Schmidt told reporters.
What they really mean is: "We would be concerned by any kind of action by Microsoft since they are a competitor"

"We would hope that anything they did would be consistent with the openness of the Internet, but I doubt it would be."
What they really mean is: "We're envious of Microsoft's success and are trying to convince people that Microsoft is Satan while Google can do no evil in a pathetic attempt to downplay our competition."

Schmidt pointed to Microsoft's past history and "the things that it has done that have been so difficult for everyone"
What they really mean is: "Microsoft's success has made it difficult for competitors to win over customers and we are joining the whining bandwagon because we are scared to death of them."

I feel sad for anyone who buys their cry-baby crap.

Why people complaining about all this??? Its not like the minute Microsoft buys Yahoo your going to be forced to pay for searching something. This is company rivalry and competition, it doesnt affect the user at all. We will still have the internet, just instead of typing in "www.google.com", you may be typing "www.live.com"

Of course it would hurt the Internet... I mean, there are really only a couple superpowers when it comes to the Internet search engines:
Google
Yahoo
Microsoft
A9
AOL

They are all really big, except for perhaps the last two. If Yahoo is gone, that'll leave only Microsoft and Google as the "megapowers".

I'm scared. I'm not a Google advocate, but I do know that they have contributed a lot to the Web, that they originally started as a fork of Yahoo! and that if things like this continue, the Internet's foundation will crumble.

Oh well. Wasn't there something about the Internet being completely reinvented? I guess that'll be forced then!

I hope this happens.. so google looses out. Man.. their really whinning about this like a couple of small school girls.. Google should just face up with it and try and improve or just keep dominating...

Hate Eric Schmidth!!

And they aren't cute school girls either...

Honestly though, I don't think Microsoft buying Yahoo! would hurt google or the internet that much...

I have been watching these articles but, unless I have missed something, they say it will be bad for the internet but I have not seen any specifics.

Personally I love Google to the fullest. I don't see Yahoo/Microsoft hurting the internet or even Google at all.

Don't love companies, it's stupid. You can love their products but don't love the company.

Google needs to stop whining. If they think that this will hurt the internet, then they need to come up with a solution that competes with a Microsoft/Yahoo acquisition. But of course that isn't the real issue here, the real issue here is that if Microsoft were to acquire Yahoo, Microsoft could hurt Google, not the internet.

Could someone please get Google a tissue?
