Has Windows 8 RTM gotten the "sign off"?

Windows 8 seems to be "this close" to becoming a reality in its final form, at least for PC OEM hardware makers. A website that has provided accurate information about Windows 8 build numbers in the past, Winunleaked.info, has made an update to its list, claiming that Microsoft has "signed off" on the final build.

The site's forums lists  9200.16384.win8_rtm.120725-1247 as the "signed off" build for Windows 8 RTM (Release to Manufacturing). If true, this would be in line with previous reports that have Microsoft putting in 9200 as the build number for the commercial version of Windows 8.

Other reports from unnamed sources claim that Microsoft could provide the final Windows 8 RTM build via download for its OEM partners as early as Wednesday, August 1st. It's also possible that the build could get leaked out into the Internet before that happens.

Once again, we want to note that Microsoft has not commented on any of these Windows 8 RTM "sign off" reports. Offically, the only thing Microsoft has said that Windows 8 RTM is scheduled to launch in the first week of August. It will be available for consumers to buy, via updates or in new PCs, on October 26th.

I'm just hoping they have the intro guide (like XP) showing all the new hotcorners for new users. I can recall it being rumoured in early RP builds but got left out.

yup, they'll have a whole intro guide for users when they first login, similar to WinXP as i've read/heard. but big chance its better and completely retardproof

No, that´s not what he says. He says ´Pcyr´ doesn´t approve yet, but he is not ´Pcyr´. So I suppose we should find this ´Pcyr´ person and get him to approve!

if he did i would probably crap my pants lol
and i guess the other guy that replied to me doesn't have a sense of humor

Im gonna climb up a tree and throw feces at the ground if they don't release it today!! Seriously, im curious to see the new 'bing' app and how smooth the whole OS runs, it seems one of MS's prime focuses was on the fluidity of the OS. RP = 6.5/10

Did they bring back the start menu and make the desktop start up as default? The UI is suppose to easy for people to use not a mission to figure out where everything is with the short cuts with pure keys! All the naysays you say or your wrong because its easier with shorts are ignorant! Its all about the user experience!

your still on DOS?
DOS > 3.11 = had to learn new UI, on a mission to figure out where everything is.
3.11 > w95 = had to learn new UI, on a mission to figure out where everything is.
w95 > wXP = had to learn new UI, on a mission to figure out where everything is.
wXP > Vista = had to learn new UI, on a mission to figure out where everything is.
Vista > w7 = had to learn new UI, on a mission to figure out where everything is.
w7 > w8 =had to learn new UI, on a mission to figure out where everything is.

i surely hope you get my point every release of Windows is figuring out where everything is.

I think they should continue working on bugs and improvements. Why do this now if they are not releasing it for a few more months.

it takes time to print on desks and send to OEMs

what bugs? except an GPU glitch in IE10 (fonts sometimes randomly dissapear or turn into random bits of black pixels) and applications not noticing my left/right side of window is a metro app and the popup menu goes under it
other then this, there isnt much. and its still very little for a beta

either way, dont worry holmes, they're still working on bugs/exploits they'll be released during/after launch and what not. its not like the NT/windows development comes to a complete abrupt halt when they release a new windows.

Why didn't they just wait a week and release the RTM on August 8th?

Feel free to Download on 8/8 while everybody else downloads at the earliest.

I have my Windows 8 keys.. Just waiting for the download links to go live

Serevr 2012 too

Where did you get your keys? They are not showing up on technet yet.

I just got an email from Microsoft about 3 minutes ago, advertising "Windows 8 - Powered by the cloud. Your Windows everywhere."

Waiting for the leak to happen

that's the bottom line right there

just want to play with it a bit on a virtual machine just to see if it's as bad as i think it will be as i know technically it's got a bit better performance than Windows 7 but if the overall interface etc is messed up that could be a bit of a show stopper.

either way though ill probably be stuck on Windows 7 since i think some apps i use need updates to work on Windows 8 which i cannot get basically.

What Apps are those cause any app that runs on window s7 runs on windows 8 just fine and there is a Desktop in windows 8 so you if you wish nto dont have to go in to the metro start screen after booting and click the desktop tile but yes your apps will work just fine every app i have ever ran on windows 7 works out of the box on windows 8

Also you can download the Release preview version and run that to see how performance is but i would not run it in a VM as well VMs are limted still today for the most part

What's the point of a leak; it's not like we would have the product key to be able to install the OS. Unlike Windows 7, Windows 8 doesn't allow installation without product key.

It doesn't? That's new to me...

Well to be specific... 'Alt.Binz v0.25.0' which they do have updates but they are not free as that's the last free version of it and that was back in 2007 but it runs fine on Windows 7 but i heard it has issues with Windows 8.

The Consumer Preview and Release Preview didn't. I can't remember if the Developer Preview did.

Both of these could be installed without a product key, you just had to use WDS or Imagex.

it does, offcourse. otherwise someone will build an image with a preset serial number

I meant like in Win7 you can install without using a key and get 30 days before you have to put a key in for activation.

Yeah because the version number is so important, right?

Every time I open CMD I see the build number. 8888 would be sick to see rather than 9200 Just saying

Does it hurt you if others find build numbers interesting to discuss? It matters to some, so we have just as much right to think it matters as you do to think it doesn't.

Yes. But obviously just as important to you as I find your stupid anime.

I think 8888 would have been cooler. :'(

I would, but it wouldn't compile with MS rule of dividable by 16 and 10.
