iPad 3 to be released by Thanksgiving?

Should you go ahead and purchase an iPad now or wait to see if Apple will release a new version of its best selling tablet device by the end of the year? Many people who don't own an iPad are likely making that kind of decision thanks in part to persistent rumors that Apple plans to launch a third version of the iPad soon. The latest comes from Venture Beat that reports a Chinese language web site claims that Apple will launch the iPad 3 in time for Thanksgiving here in the US., the unofficial start of the holiday buying season. Most of the Internet rumors of an iPad 3 center on adding a higher resolution screen compared to the current iPad 2 but nothing else in terms of upgraded hardware.

In related news, the Taiwan Economic News web site reports that Apple is going to be using a new manufacturing company to make the iPad 3. The report, which cites unnamed sources, claims that Pegatron has secured the contract to assemble the new iPad. Previously the iPad had been made by Foxconn but the China-based company has had some recent issues, including the fact that one of Foxconn's plants exploded back in May, killing three factory workers. Apple previously announced that it had sold 9.25 million iPads worldwide in the quarter that ended on June 30. If the iPad was considered to be part of the PC hardware market its sales would now make up a 11 percent of the total PC market.

Its best selling tablet device? They only sell one tablet, don't they?

What they need is an SD Card slot, with the ability to view photos. It would be awesome if I could be taking pictures with my DSLR and then pop the card out of my DSLR and slap it into an ipad and look at what I have taken.

Nope, Apple will never put an SD card slot. It's against their minimalist aesthetic.

You can already do this with the Camera Connection Kit.

It appears you have to import them into the ipad first before you can view them full screen. Which sucks. I don't want to import them to my ipad, I just want to look at this off the card.

Give me a Retina display and widgets, then I'll be interested.

Widgets just won't happen soon (go Android fella!). Retina display on 10" I think will cost too much right now

Yeah I don't see how they put a retina display and keep the price at $499.

It's not going to happen in my option. Why would Apple release another iPad this year when the iPad 2 is still selling so well and they have just about caught up to demand on it lowering there shipping times to 1-3 days not so long ago.

I would be absurdly shocked if Apple comes out with an iPad 3 this year. I'm not saying they won't do it, but I would be absurdly shocked.

Oh wait, Android tablets already do this, I'll stick with my ASUS Transformer. /troll

Needed: Apps.

24 months ago you might of been right, Android has been gaining apps in exponential numbers. In a matter of weeks now it will have more than Apple.

As above, quality apps. FYI I own a Xoom and an iPad (v1).

Ha, I would give up all those for better apps. The apps on Android tablets are awful.

I considered an Android tablet before buying my iPad 2. Ultimately it came down to the fact that none of the dozen Android tablets that I sampled had as fluid of a response as the iPad. Things just seemed choppier. If you put the two side by side and "flick" the screen to the next screen you'll see what I'm talking about.
