iPad event confirmed by Apple for March 2nd

Just yesterday, we reported that the iPad 2 could have been delayed, then this claim was later denied. Then All Things Digital claimed the iPad 2 would be announced on March 2nd. This claim has now turned out to be true. Apple has started sending invitations to members of the press for an event that will be held on March 2nd, 10:00 am, at the Yerba Buena Center in San Fransisco, California.

According to the invitation received by The Loop, the event will be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts at 10:00 am. This is the same venue Apple has used to introduce a number of products in recent years.

The official specs are unknown as of yet, but soon we'll get to know them. Two cameras, an SD slot, and a higher screen resolution are expected, but still unconfirmed. There isn't much to say as of now. As always, we'll keep you informed as we get updates.

You mean tablets that came after the iPad? Sorry Apple couldn't magically install cameras on everyone's iPad because subsequent tablets came out with cameras.

I have to agree, Why would take a picture with a tablet anyways?

A front FaceTime camera I can understand, but I cant imagine anyone whipping out a 10" tablet when they need to take a photo

I used to feel the same, but there are quite a few reasons, and you wouldn't 'whip out' the iPad as you'd already be using it.
Ebay, twitter, workstation, scanning barcodes, there are a few reasons.

I'm an iPad owner but I would never take a picture with it. I always have my iPhone on me so I would just use that (I imagine the camera in the iPad will be inferior as well). Front facing camera though I understand.

I agree, I also own an iPad but if im going to take a photo im going to use my iPhone.

I can't think of any situation when i wouldn't have both on me.

Are you proud after your little statement? If it wasn't for Apple this tablet trend wouldn't have started.

You are joking right? Stevie didn't think tablets would go any where.

I was about to pick up an iPod touch but I think I will wait and see if a 7" (or something smaller than 10") model of iPad gets released. I'd rather have a larger screen than the touch, but don't want a screen as big as my netbook.

You know Apple was super smart with the iPad. They released the original one with no competition and took out the camera and still sold very well. Now that there is more competition they are adding the basic features to get people to upgrade and for people to see that the iPad is just as good if not better than the competition.

Brilliant.

They did very well to get first to market with the iPad. It was almost rushed just to make sure they were (rememeber all the delays with the 3G etc).

I hope they add something other just stuff that everyone has already guessed but that's probably not going to happen with the iPad 2

If the only *big* added feature for the iPad 2 is a camera, I'll be happy NOT to upgrade because I don't do any video chat/facetime.

More memory or dual-core CPU are nice, but not enough to make me upgrade. I don't have any problem doing what I want with my iPad 1....

I have been waiting for this specifically for the camera... simply because (I hope at some point) Skype will run on it and I'll be able to use its full capabilities for meetings while traveling.

OMG! A CAMERA! I'll happily upgrade and pay Apple $800+ for a camera! I NEED the iPad2! Apple knows what I need before I do!

Do you replace your car every year when a new model come out? Same with computers: I replace them when something I am interested comes out.

It was sarcasm. I don't even own an iPad, they're completely useless, unless you want a gaming amchine. Tablet? Try again. Hardly.

Lol can't believe Fritzy missed the sarcasm on that one. I'm still trying to picture in my head how I would hold it and work on it at the same time.

Yep. He did miss it! lol

I may not bother until the next gen. The only thing my iPad is lacking is internal storage. I should have bought the 64GB model, but at this point, I may as well wait until they release 128GB or so.

Lets hope it won't be as ugly as in all the mockups we've seen... Not that I am getting it anyway, I've got the first I'm waiting for the third generation.
