iPhone 4S launch in China greeted with egg throwing

Launches of previous versions of the iPhone have been greeted with large crowds at times. However, the crowd of approximately 500 people waiting for the Chinese launch of the iPhone 4S at Apple's official Beijing store today got a little rowdy. As Bloomberg reports, some members of the crowd started throwing eggs at the store after it was announced that the iPhone 4S would not go on sale after all.

MICGadget.com reports that most of the crowd at the Beijing Apple store were in fact scalpers who will likely try to turn around and sell their iPhone 4S for a lot more money. The story claims that the Beijing SWAT team was called in to help with the angry mob outside the Apple store.

Not every location in China had a crowd that was as unruly as the one in the Beijing store today. The Apple store in the Xidan neighborhood simply handed out tickets to the assembled crowd good for purchasing two iPhone 4S units. The store in Shanghai actually opened an hour earlier than planned to help out. The iPhone 4S, as we reported earlier this month, also went on sale today in 21 more countries around the world.

Can't believe people can get so crazy over a phone - to the extent that people will throw eggs, and to the extent that the scalpers can actually make a lot of money from reselling those phones.

There seems to be mixed reports of this story on the net. Some say the phone went on sale but a SWAT team had to break up the crowd when fights broke out. Only then did the store close which lead to eggs being thrown.
Whatever the story, sounds this a right mess.

The scalpers were also @ Xidan, the difference is that they were very well organized. The scalpers came in minivans and there were many groups of them, but very well organized and didn't cause any issues, in fact it was pretty funny seeing them hold up flags like tour guides and standing around in their little groups before lining up.

Meh, I just got back from China, it how they are. If you say you are gonna do something you had better do it or get people annoyed.

As for the scalpers, its what they do. Got an issue? buy from apple not from a guy on the street. There are plenty of legit market sellers as well as more illicit ones. If the price aint right dont buy

Yep, politeness doesn't come into it, they fight for it. Snooze you lose. Survival in a busy country like that.

To the scalpers... serves them right. Minus their mob like behavior of course.

On a related topic, I was completely unaware some markets were set to release the 4s almost three months late.
