Windows 8 may be about a year away (more or less) from its launch, but that doesn't mean that some people who work to update and service operating systems are not preparing for its launch. InformationWeek.com reports that it took a survey of 973 IT workers in October and that 52 percent all those surveyed said their organizations plan to upgrade to Windows 8 eventually.
28 percent of the IT workers surveyed said that at the moment they don't have a specific timeline set up to upgrade their company's desktops and laptops to Windows 8. 19 percent said they plan to upgrade within 24 months of Windows 8's release while 13 percent said they would update within 12 months. Only five percent said that they would update their machines to Windows 8 as soon as it is available.
The results were a bit different when it came to upgrading a company's servers. 18 percent of the IT workers who were surveyed said they plan to upgrade servers to Windows 8 as needed to replace older and retired servers. 17 percent still don't have a specific timeline for Windows 8 server upgrades while 14 percent plan to upgrade within 24 months. 13 percent will upgrade their servers to Windows 8 within 12 months of the launch and eight percent plan to upgrade as soon as Windows 8 launches.
The survey results clearly show that Windows 8 is going to be used by at least a small majority of IT workers. More organizations made choose to add Windows 8 upgrades to their IT plans in the coming months as more information on Windows 8 is revealed and when a beta for the operating system is released ahead of the full launch.
