K-Lite Codec Pack Standard 9.7.0 available for download

The K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of DirectShow filters, VFW/ACM codecs, and tools. Codecs and DirectShow filters are needed for encoding and decoding audio and video formats. The K-Lite Codec Pack is designed as a user-friendly solution for playing all your audio and movie files. With the K-Lite Codec Pack you should be able to play all the popular audio and video formats and even several less common formats.

K-Lite Codec Pack standard variant contains everything you need to play all the common video file formats. It contains Media Player Classic, which is an excellent player for video files. It also has (better) support for playback of DVDs. This pack is recommended for the average user.

What's new in this version:

  • Updated Media Player Classic Home Cinema to version 1.6.6.6584
  • Updated ffdshow to version 1.3.4500
  • Updated LAV Filters to version 0.55.1-13-g00b6435
  • Updated Icaros to version 2.1.5
  • Updated Codec Tweak Tool to version 5.5.1
  • Updated Win7DSFilterTweaker to version 5.7

There are a lot of good codec packs out there, but a lot contain illegal codecs. K-Lite Codec Pack (Standard) contains nothing but legal and clean codecs. Here you can find a list of all components that are included in the pack.

ever since i switched to win 8 x64 pro on all my pc desktop/notebook/slate, i haven't installed any codec pack. although, i still download them.

Used to be one of the first things I installed on a new computer, but been many years since I've used it. I've been using Shark007 Codecs for many years now.
Just out of curiosity, how is Media Player Classic Home Cinema? Never used it or MPC period.
I listen to music almost 24/7 (WMP) but sometimes I like to watch porn at the same time.
Years ago I used Winamp for music and music videos and WMP for movies and porn.
I don't like VLC and I was thinking of having something lightweight to launch a video in while I listen to music, so is Media Player Classic Home Cinema any good? Better than VLC, or similar?
