As we increasingly depend on digital tools and cloud services for work and play, the need to effectively manage the security of those resources continues to grow. Multi-factor authentication is highly recommended for securing access to the digital side of our lives, but for many of us, even keeping track of the passwords we use across dozens of services can be a challenge.
Many users now rely on password management tools to make that process easier, and one of the most popular options available is LastPass. Now, LastPass has announced a big change to its service, in an effort to encourage more users to take control of their online security in the digital age.
From today, you'll be able to use LastPass to manage all of your passwords across all of your internet-enabled PCs, tablets and phones, free of charge. Previously, use of the tool on an unlimited number of devices required a premium or business subscription.
Joe Siegrist, vice president and general manager of LastPass, said that a password manager is most effective when it's "available whenever and wherever you need it", adding:
By offering LastPass for free across all your devices, we’re making it that much easier for everyone to make good password habits the norm, while resetting the expectations of what a great password management experience should be in a multi-device world. Because when you have a password manager that goes everywhere you do, you have a strong foundation for securing and managing your identity.
LastPass is available to download for multiple platforms, including Windows, Mac, Android and Linux, with extensions support in a wide range of browsers, such as Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox and Opera.
The company also offers a two-factor authentication app for Windows, iOS and Android devices.
