Latest Surface Pro 3 firmware brings improved power management with Anniversary Update

Yesterday, Microsoft released a new firmware update for its Surface Pro 3 tablet - its second in less than two weeks. However, the company did not publish any details of what that new firmware included on its Surface Update History page.

That information is now available, listing two improvements - both of which apply only to "Surface Pro 3 devices that have the Windows 10 Anniversary Update installed":

Surface Pro UEFI

  • v3.11.1550.0 improves stability and performance when changing between power states.

Surface Pen Settings

  • v12.0.303.1 improves system stability with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

Microsoft began the rollout of the Anniversary Update for PCs and tablets today, and it will continue in the coming days and weeks.

While the release notes for the new firmware refer to improvements related to power management on the Surface Pro 3, it's not clear if that fix specifically aims to address recent complaints about poor battery life on the device.

Microsoft acknowledged that problem last week, saying that it affected only "a limited number of customers". The company added that the hardware itself was not at fault, and that it expected to be able to fix the issue with a software update.
