Launch date for Galaxy S6 confirmed, pricing and specs leaked ahead of reveal

According to a report over at PC Pro, Samsung has confirmed a March 1 launch date of its next flagship, the Galaxy S6. Pricing was also leaked for all tiers of the next flagship to a "trusted source" with the entry level S6 clocking in at €749/£566 and the most expensive "Edge' version costing €1,049 (£791). The device is expected to start shipping before the end of March.

What isn't yet clear, is if the entry-level Galaxy S6 will have a curved screen, either on one edge, or both. Some reports have suggested that a special Galaxy S 'Edge' edition will be made available alongside the 'standard' flagship, but so far all we have seen are concepts, such as the one at the top of this page.

Samsung released this teaser yesterday, suggesting a curved edge.

The supposed leaked specifications state that the S6 will ship with 4GB RAM, a 64-bit CPU, up to 128GB storage, up to 20-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth Smart.

Pricing for the different tiers start with the entry-level 32GB Galaxy S6 at €749 (£566), which is in line with the previously expected price range in the UK of around £500-£600, including VAT. The top-end 128GB version will apparently cost €949 (£717). The 32GB Galaxy 'S Edge' will cost €849 (£640), according to the leak courtesy of AndroidPit, while the 128GB version is listed at €1,049 (£791).

All tiers are listed below:

  • Samsung Galaxy S6 32 GB: €749 (£566)
  • Samsung Galaxy S6 64 GB: €849 (£640)
  • Samsung Galaxy S6 128 GB: €949 (£717)
  • Samsung Galaxy S Edge 32 GB: €849 (£640)
  • Samsung Galaxy S Edge 64 GB: €949 (£717)
  • Samsung Galaxy S Edge 128 GB: €1049 (£791)

In any case, we won't have too long to wait as Samsung is preparing to officially unveil the new device in just a few weeks. As reported yesterday, Samsung is sending out invites to a 'Galaxy Unpacked' event to be held on March 1, just ahead of the Mobile World Congress trade show. The company has recently refreshed many of its low- and mid-range handsets, and the timing lines up perfectly for an official announcement of the Galaxy S6.
